Description
Nya Nia, also spelled Nyah Neeah and often called simply Nia, is a supporting character in the anime Tower of God: Return of the Prince. He is a Regular who is first seen working as a delivery boy for a jjamppong restaurant on the 20th Floor of the Tower. He later quits that job to take part in the floor's tests. He is a short, fair-skinned young man with short grey hair, emerald eyes, and a pair of brown canine-like ears. His soft voice and delicate, androgynous appearance lead his close companion Ja Wangnan to mistakenly believe he is a girl, and the misunderstanding only clears when the two bathe together.
Nia's past explains much of his present situation. When he first arrived on the 20th Floor, he entered the tests alongside colleagues who had climbed the Tower with him, but he failed. His companions then betrayed him, stealing his money and weapons and abandoning him because they saw him as weak and useless. That experience left him isolated, financially desperate, and dependent on others for survival. Despite this, his personality is generally pleasant and cheerful, though he remains quiet and unassuming most of the time and does not stand out in a crowd.
His main motivation is not personal ambition but loyalty to an elderly woman he calls grandma. He becomes involved with a man named Kim Lurker and cooperates with Lurker's schemes in exchange for help paying off that woman's debt. This is why he participates in the Tower's testing games despite his lack of combat ability. During the so-called untrustworthy room game, he becomes Wangnan's friend and roommate, and the two form a genuine bond. Nia is also revealed to be working with Lurker during this period, which places him in a conflicted position between his new friendship and his obligation to Lurker.
