Description
Kim Lurker, also known as Rai in the anime adaptation, is a Regular on the 20th Floor of the Tower and the first major antagonist of the Tower of God: Return of the Prince story arc. He works as a shylock and assistant manager for Lurker Cash, a lending company that finances Regulars attempting to climb the Tower. He has pale skin, grey eyes, and black hair, and he presents himself as a practical, businesslike figure who treats climbing the Tower as a matter of contracts and debts rather than dreams.
His background explains much of his behavior. Lurker was once in a position similar to Ja Wangnan, the protagonist of the arc. He borrowed money from a lending company to fund his own climb, but he failed the tests, could not repay the debt, and gave up on advancing through the Tower. To save his life, he begged the president of Lurker Cash to spare him and was given the job of collecting debts and managing borrowers. In effect, the person who once borrowed to chase his ambitions became the person who traps others in the same cycle.

In the Return of the Prince arc, Lurker is the obstacle that forces Wangnan into his most difficult situation. He lends Wangnan money and then blackmails him into agreeing to sell his organs if he fails the 20th Floor exam, turning the test into a matter of life and death. When the next exam begins, Lurker joins the test group to help Prince, the son of Lurker Cash's president, climb the Tower. The president has bribed exam officials and hired mercenaries to guarantee Prince's success, and Lurker acts as his escort and handler. During the Trustworthy Room test, Lurker reveals his true intentions. He captures Nia, a young Regular who had cooperated with him in exchange for debt relief, and kills him in front of Wangnan. He takes control of seven rooms, including the rooms belonging to Prince and Yeon Yihwa, and orders his subordinate creature Robdevil to kill Prince. His goal is to take over the team for himself and finally break away from Lurker Cash and its president.
As a fighter, Lurker is a capable 20th Floor Regular, but his most notable ability involves a clever use of Shinsu. He channels Shinsu through a water bottle, using the container as a medium to control and direct it during combat. This trick is also his weakness. Wangnan notices how Lurker relies on the bottle and takes it from him during their confrontation, leaving Lurker vulnerable. Wangnan then defeats him, declaring that Lurker is receiving divine punishment for the suffering he caused, and specifically for the murder of Nia.
