TV-Series
Description
Augusgus is a High Ranker and serves as the Test Director in charge of the 20th Floor of the Tower. He is also secretly a member of FUG, an organization that opposes the current ruling power of the Tower. His position as Test Director grants him significant authority over the tests that Regulars must pass to climb the Tower, but his true loyalty lies with FUG's hidden agenda.
In appearance, Augusgus is an extremely pale-skinned man with curly white hair and striking, unusual eyes featuring red sclera and yellow irises. He typically wears a white admiral's coat over a dark grey top and dark trousers, which gives him a formal and commanding presence. A distinctive "Fried" tag is attached to his left arm, indicating his membership in the "Fried" side of the Chicken Love Club, a detail that reveals a more personal and somewhat quirky aspect of his character.
His personality is marked by a strong insistence on proper procedure and the absolute rules of the Tower, at least on the surface. He is shown to be serious and willing to physically reprimand a fellow Ranker, Love, for attempting to eliminate the Slayer Candidate Viole from a test. Despite this stern exterior, Augusgus has a more inexpressive and subtle demeanor, which can create a comedic contrast between his words and his blank expression. He is also patient and calculating, preferring to let events unfold according to a larger plan rather than acting on impulsive revenge.
Augusgus's primary motivation throughout the "Return of the Prince" arc is to advance FUG's interests while maintaining the appearance of a neutral Test Director. He is not driven by personal vendettas but by a calculated effort to manipulate events in FUG's favor. When Love, a Ranker under his supervision, discovers Viole's affiliation with FUG and wants to eliminate him, Augusgus intervenes. He orders Love not to interfere, reminding him of the Tower's rules, and even tries to recruit Love into his own family. His actions ensure Viole's survival and continued progress up the Tower, which is essential for FUG's plans to create a powerful Slayer.
Augusgus's role in the story is that of a hidden orchestrator. He supervises the 20th Floor tests where the protagonist, under the guise of Viole, is climbing with FUG companions. He chastises Love for administering an improper test born of a desire for revenge, pointing out that Love's actions have only succeeded in spreading rumors about a new and incredible Slayer Candidate. After suspending Love for his misconduct, Augusgus closes the curtains in his office and communicates with a contact he calls the "Submerged Fish," revealing that everything is proceeding exactly as FUG wanted it to. This moment confirms his secret alignment and his satisfaction with the outcome of the tests. He also reports to Yu Han Sung, his contact, that the "prince" has passed the 20th Floor test, a cryptic reference whose full meaning remains unclear.
Key relationships define his position and actions. His most direct interaction is with Love, the Ranker in charge of the 20th Floor's tests. Augusgus acts as Love's superior, punishing him for his failures but also ultimately preventing his dismissal, showing a degree of complex consideration for his subordinate. His relationship with the "Submerged Fish," Yu Han Sung, is one of co-conspirators within FUG, as they work together to guide the situation according to their organization's design. Through these connections, Augusgus demonstrates that he values long-term strategic gains over short-term conflicts.
Augusgus shows notable development in the series, particularly in how his capabilities are revealed. Initially appearing as a strict but neutral administrator, his true allegiance as a FUG member is disclosed, marking him as a significant behind-the-scenes player. Later in the story, during the Battle of the Nest, his power as a High Ranker is fully displayed. He is entrusted with guarding a crucial Shinsu Warp Device that FUG plans to use as an escape route, a task given to him by the Slayer Baylord Yama and supported by FUG Elder Sophia Tan. This responsibility indicates the high level of trust FUG places in him.
As a High Ranker, Augusgus possesses considerable strength and unique abilities. His fighting style revolves around a technique called Shinsu Drawing, which he performs using a large needle weapon. With this needle, he can "draw" specific shapes in the air to create powerful attacks and defenses. One offensive technique is Shinsu Drawing: Zigzag, which creates a zigzag pattern of shinsu capable of obliterating multiple targets, such as destroying a squadron of mechanical soldiers. For defense, he uses Shinsu Drawing: Circle to create a protective barrier. His power is such that he was able to block a shinsu cannon attack from a warship and then destroy the vessel with a single swing of his needle, demonstrating his immense combat prowess.
