Description
Inspector Lestrade appears in the anime Lupin the 3rd Part 6 as a detective working for Scotland Yard. Physically, he is characterized by his gray hair and black eyes, and he almost always wears a gray suit paired with a red tie and black shoes.

On the surface, Lestrade projects an image of a calm, kind, and trustworthy officer. In his professional life, he works closely with the famous detective Sherlock Holmes, assisting him on various investigations. His public persona extends to his personal relationships, where he acts as a gentle caretaker and an uncle-like figure to Lily Watson, having known her since she was a small child.

However, this benevolent facade conceals a much darker reality. Lestrade is secretly a member of the Raven, a powerful and shadowy organization that has been manipulating the British government from behind the scenes. It is revealed that a decade before the main events of the story, Lestrade murdered Dr. John H. Watson, who was not only Sherlock Holmes's partner but also Lily's father. On the night of the murder, Lily witnessed the crime while wearing a distinctive yellow scarf; Lestrade later removed this scarf from the scene, a small but crucial detail that Holmes would eventually use to identify him as the killer.

Lestrade's motivation is tied to his allegiance to the Raven and its objectives, which included eliminating specific targets like Dr. Watson. His role in the story is that of a hidden antagonist, and the primary mystery of the first major story arc revolves around uncovering him as the true culprit behind the murder. His key relationship with Sherlock Holmes is thus built on a foundation of professional collaboration but is ultimately shattered by betrayal. Similarly, his caring relationship with Lily is a complete deception that becomes the emotional core of his unmasking, as she eventually recovers her memory of him as her father's killer.

The character's development culminates in his exposure and final confrontation. When Holmes and the master thief Lupin III discover the truth, Lestrade is pursued to London Bridge. Realizing his situation is hopeless, he requests that Holmes deliver a final message to Lily. He then falls into the river below and deliberately detonates an explosive device, committing suicide. Following his death, Holmes calls him a fool, marking a tragic end to an arc that starkly contrasts his professional, kindly detective image with his concealed identity as a merciless conspirator and murderer.

As a police detective, Lestrade appears competent and professional, but his most notable ability is his capacity for deception. He successfully maintained his cover for a decade, working alongside the world's greatest detective while hiding his own violent secret. His actions indirectly drive much of the plot, as Lily's quest for justice and Holmes's investigation are both focused on finding her father's killer, a man who was hidden in plain sight.
