David Manet
Description
David Manet is a Belgian actor, primarily known for his extensive work in voice acting for animation and live-action productions. He was born in Uccle, Belgium, on June 14, 1973. He is a graduate of the Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles, where he earned first prizes in both Dramatic Art and Declamation.
Manet has been active in dubbing since the late 1990s and has become a prominent figure in the Belgian French-language voice-over industry. His most defining and long-running role is that of James in the Pokémon anime series and its associated films. He has voiced the character consistently since the series began in 1997, appearing in nearly every film and season, with the exception of a few early films that were dubbed by a different studio. This commitment has made his interpretation of James iconic for French-speaking fans of the franchise.
Beyond Pokémon, Manet has lent his voice to a wide array of characters in numerous popular anime series. He voiced Tristan Taylor in the early seasons of Yu-Gi-Oh! and took on the complex role of Nagato and his alias Pain in the Naruto Shippuden series. His filmography also includes the role of Shura du Capricorne in Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Sanctuary and Gemini Saga in Saint Seiya: Saintia Shō, Fyodor Dostoevsky in Bungo Stray Dogs, Portgas D. Ace in the second dub of One Piece, and Takuya Shirakawa in the film The Place Promised in Our Early Days. He also voiced Toby in the OVA series New Fist of the North Star. In more recent productions, his roles include Piodon and Baron Doussant in Radiant, Shuji Hanma in Tokyo Revengers, and Tsubaki Iwanome in Dead Mount Death Play.
His career is marked by recurring collaborations with other voice actors, notably Aurélien Ringelheim, with whom he has worked on at least fifteen different projects. Manet is also widely recognized by live-action audiences as the official French voice of the Ninth, Tenth, and Fourteenth incarnations of the Doctor in the long-running series Doctor Who.
