Description
Darnic Prestone Yggdmillennia is a central figure in the Yggdmillennia clan and serves as the primary antagonist leading the Black Faction. Despite his appearance as a man in his late twenties, he is ninety-seven years old, with a tall, large build, purple pupils, and dark green hair tied back with a black hairband. He typically wears the black and white uniform of his clan, complemented by a white cloak and a cane.

His backstory is defined by a significant event that occurred six to seven decades prior to the main conflict. He participated in the Third Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City, where he discovered the location of the Greater Grail. Following the war, he used the military force of Nazi Germany to seize the Greater Grail, then betrayed and eliminated his accomplices to hide it beneath the Fortress of Millennia in Romania. Over the following years, he consolidated power by incorporating various disenfranchised magus families into his own, using the Greater Grail as a symbol to declare the Yggdmillennia clan's independence from the Mage's Association, thereby triggering the Great Holy Grail War.

Personality-wise, Darnic is an arrogant and persistent individual, renowned as a skilled deceiver capable of misleading others. He is not a particularly hard worker by nature, but decades of enduring contempt from the Mage's Association fueled a deep-seated obsession with revenge. He channels the collective grudges of magi who have been exiled to the margins of the world. While he pursues immortality and magical innovation through extreme means, his character is that of a first-rate magus and a shrewd politician. He is more focused on the political advantages of his actions than on superficial honors, having famously used his silver tongue to rise from the rank of Brand to the honorary rank of Grand within the Association's hierarchy, despite his actual abilities not necessarily matching that highest title.

Darnic's primary motivation is to secure the future of his clan and achieve his lifelong goal as a magus: reaching the Root, the origin of all existence. He uses the Great Holy Grail War as a tool for both revenge against the Association that scorned him and his bloodline, and as the final step in his magical research. His central role in the story is as the mastermind of the Black Faction and the Master of the Black Lancer, Vlad III. He treats his Servant with utmost respect, deferring to him as the lord of Yggdmillennia, recognizing Vlad's immense fame and power on his home soil of Romania as the strategic core of their faction.

His key relationships are primarily with his Servant, Vlad III, and the other masters of the Black Faction. While he shows loyalty and deference to Lancer, he is more calculating with his fellow clan members, viewing some like Caules as expendable pawns while acknowledging the potential of his chosen successor, Fiore Forvedge Yggdmillennia. His development throughout the conflict leads to a desperate end. As the Black Faction falls into a disadvantage, his main research into soul fusion achieves a final, grim apotheosis. He attempts to fuse his own soul with that of his Servant Vlad III. However, this act backfires when Vlad’s intense hatred for his legendary association with vampirism is invoked, causing a transformation that ultimately results in Darnic's own consciousness being consumed and eliminated.

Regarding notable abilities, Darnic is a seasoned magus whose true strength lies not just in magical prowess but in his political cunning and tenacity. His expertise in the field of the human soul led him to develop a technique for soul fusion with a Servant. While his official magic rank is Grand, this is understood to be an honorary title granted for his political contributions to the Association rather than a reflection of his raw magical power. Nonetheless, he is a formidable opponent; in a direct magical battle, his combination of experience, talent, and relentless persistence would likely make him the victor in a standard Holy Grail War.
