Description
Aki Sendô is a middle school student from Japan who becomes transported to another world. She has black eyes and short black hair, which she typically wears in a side ponytail. At the time of her summoning, she is thirteen years old.
Her background is marked by a complicated family situation. Aki is the half-sister of Haruto Amakawa, born from an affair her mother had, though she was initially unaware of this fact. When she was four years old, her parents divorced, and Haruto was taken away by his father. The family was separated with no further contact allowed between Haruto and Aki. After the divorce, Aki was raised solely by her mother, who struggled financially and eventually fainted from overwork. During this difficult period, Aki's sadness over losing her brother gradually transformed into anger and, eventually, hatred, as she felt abandoned by Haruto, who had promised to always be there for her. Her mother later remarried, giving Aki stepbrothers named Takahisa and Masato Sendô, whose existence helped fill the emotional void left by Haruto's absence.
Aki attempts to act mature, strong, and cool, particularly in front of her younger brother Masato. Despite this, she retains a childish and somewhat naive side, craving attention and allowing herself to be spoiled by those she trusts, such as Miharu Ayase or Takahisa. She is serious and responsible, but when faced with overwhelming or unexpected events, she becomes easily confused and struggles to manage her strong emotions.
Her primary motivation throughout much of the story is rooted in her unresolved feelings about her family. The trauma of being abandoned by her brother Haruto created a deep emotional wound, leading to a dependence on Miharu and a desire to keep her remaining family together. This dependency and unresolved resentment drive many of her later actions in the narrative.
Aki's role in the story begins when she is summoned to another world alongside Miharu, Masato, and the hero Satsuki Sumeragi. Shortly after arriving, the group is nearly captured by a slave trader but is rescued by Rio, who is the reincarnation of her stepbrother, Haruto Amakawa. Rio shelters Aki, Masato, and Miharu, teaching them the local language and protecting them in the spirit folk village. For six months, Rio acts as their guardian until he reunites them with Satsuki and her stepbrother Takahisa.
Her key relationships are central to her character development. Her relationship with Rio is extremely complex. Initially, she sees him only as her savior and feels gratitude toward him. However, when Rio reveals that he is the reincarnation of Haruto, her admiration turns into confusion and resentment. She refuses to see him as her former brother, particularly because he no longer addresses her with the familiar nickname "Aki-chan". Her unresolved hatred for Haruto becomes displaced onto Rio, whom she blames for preventing her family from being together. She treats Miharu Ayase as an older sister, and after the divorce, her loneliness made her overdependent on Miharu. Her stepbrother Takahisa is someone whose presence helped fill the void left by Haruto, and she becomes loyal to him to the point of agreeing to help him kidnap Miharu. With her other stepbrother Masato, she tries to act mature and protective, though he often displays greater emotional stability.
Aki undergoes a significant development arc. After being reunited with her stepbrother Takahisa in the other world, she is the only one among her siblings who chooses to follow him to the Centostella Kingdom. When Takahisa becomes obsessed with bringing Miharu to live with them, Aki, driven by her resentment toward Rio and her desire to keep her family together, agrees to assist in kidnapping Miharu. Following the failed kidnapping, Aki is sent to the Centostella Kingdom as a form of rehabilitation, where she is watched over by Masato. During this period, she begins to question her actions and her hatred. She recognizes that Haruto was only seven years old when their parents divorced and that there was nothing he could have done to prevent it, realizing she had made him a scapegoat for her pain. She later apologizes and makes amends with Miharu, acknowledging that she knew about Miharu's feelings for Haruto and that trying to crush those feelings was wrong. While she still struggles with her emotions, she no longer harbors active ill will toward Rio and even refuses to help Takahisa in a later scheme to win Miharu back, arguing she does not want to betray everyone's trust again.
Regarding her abilities, as a person summoned from another world, Aki received a large amount of mana compared to ordinary people in that world, though she initially has no knowledge or skill to use it effectively. During her time in the spirit folk village, she trained in spirit arts for approximately two and a half months, learning to control and perceive her magical power, but she never successfully learned to activate mana for practical use. For self-defense, she was taught basic martial arts using a staff or rod, though this training is strictly for defensive purposes and does not enable her to defeat opponents in combat.
