Description
Old Leader (オールドリーダー) is a supporting character in the anime Magical Destroyers. He is an adult man with brown hair cut to neck length, and his design keeps his eyes hidden from view. He is the person credited with reclaiming the Akihabara Liberation Zone from the SSC, and he now serves as the leader of the Manseibashi Otaku Commune, a community of older otaku who escaped SHOBON and the SSC and have taken refuge within the zone.

Before the suppression of otaku culture, Old Leader was himself an otaku, and for a long time he concealed his identity and stayed out of public sight. He belongs to a generation that pursued its interests during an era when society looked harshly on otaku, a circumstance that forced people like him to be discreet. That experience deeply shapes his personality. He is cautious, proud of his roots, and attached to traditional standards of what it means to be an otaku. He and the older fans under him question the authenticity of the younger generation, who openly celebrate their hobbies without the fear the older group once lived with. The work frames him with imagery associated with the nostalgic old guard, yet it treats him with seriousness and nuance rather than simple mockery, acknowledging that his attitudes grew out of genuine hardship.

Old Leader's central motivation is to preserve the older otaku culture and the way of life it represents. Although he opposes the SSC just as the rest of the resistance does, he is distrustful of the young revolutionaries of the Akiba Revolutionary Army, led by the Otaku Hero, and regards them as incompatible with his own generation. This places him in a distinct role within the story: he stands for the old guard within the liberation movement, and his commune operates as a separate community inside the reclaimed zone rather than as a fully integrated ally of the revolutionary army.

His most significant relationship is with the wider resistance, and the friction between his commune and the younger revolutionaries illustrates a generational divide among otaku. When the two sides come into conflict over a matter such as the recovery of a mecha toy that falls into the Kanda River, the dispute is settled through a sporting contest rather than combat. When the SSC then attacks with aquatic mecha beasts, the older and younger otaku unite to fight off the threat, showing that their common enemy outweighs their differences.

In terms of abilities, Old Leader is not shown to possess any special powers or notable combat skill. His importance comes from his leadership, his authority over the older otaku, and the historical knowledge he carries from the era before the crackdown. His development is modest and tied to the story's theme of generational reconciliation, as he and his community gradually find common ground with the younger resistance despite their disagreements.
