Description
Onikobe is a highly capable kunoichi, a female ninja belonging to the organization known as NIN, who serves directly under the mid-ranking ninja Kato. She is primarily assigned to overseas missions, where she carries out high-risk assassinations and intelligence operations against foreign armed forces and criminal organizations. In the opening portion of the story, she is shown operating in a conflict zone with cold efficiency, decapitating an armed enemy and slicing off a terrorist's thumb before he can activate a detonator. Her skill and brutal effectiveness in the field lead those who encounter her to regard her as something akin to a serial killer.

During her time at the ninja academy, Onikobe studied alongside Suzuki, and the two were considered the top students of their generation. As part of their counterintelligence training, female students competed to see who could make the most male students confess romantic feelings, and both Onikobe and Suzuki received twenty-four confessions over a three-year period, earning them recognition as the best students in this exercise. Onikobe reportedly drew confessions from every male student in her class as well as several female students. When the instructors revealed the nature of the exercise at graduation, many of the male students came to resent her and Suzuki. Onikobe herself looks back on this period with detached indifference; when asked if she remembers any of the boys who confessed to her, she responds that there were too many to recall and that she would simply kill any of them if they approached her. She also mentions a classmate who confessed to her in cat language, and says she was irritated enough to consider killing him at the time.

Her personality is defined by calm professionalism, emotional restraint, and an unhesitating acceptance of violence as part of her work. She shows little outward emotion and treats even gruesome tasks as routine duty. Her primary motivation is loyalty to Kato, and she follows his orders without question. When Kato contacts her during an overseas assignment to ask about her equipment and then instructs her to return to Japan without official authorization, she complies immediately. Kato's decision to recall her stems from his realization that the true front line has shifted to Japan, since a newer version of the camouflage suit was issued to another operative, Kuro, while Onikobe was still using an older model.

In Japan, Onikobe reunites with Suzuki, learns about the conflict with the rival organization UN, and expresses a willingness to fight alongside her former classmate. The two infiltrate a high school using their optical camouflage suits, where they encounter Saruta, a former classmate who has defected to the UN and holds a deep grudge against Suzuki after being manipulated during the academy's honey-trap exercise. During the ensuing battle, Saruta severely injures Suzuki by cutting off part of her leg and also wounds Onikobe in the thigh. Following Kato's orders, Onikobe pursues Saruta to the rooftop, where Saruta uses his own suit as a decoy and strikes at her from behind. Onikobe realizes the trap at the last moment and stabs Saruta in the abdomen, but Saruta simultaneously drives a knife into her face. She opens her helmet's face shield in an attempt to avoid the fatal blow, but Saruta activates a switch on the knife, and the blade pierces through her head, killing her. Her death gives Kato the opening to confine Saruta and call in a strike from a satellite weapon, which destroys the building and marks a major turning point in the story.

Notable abilities include mastery of stealth and camouflage through her signature equipment, the Marici 3.5 suit, formally known as the Special Electrostatic Latent Image Camouflage Type 10, which makes her effectively invisible during operations. She is also a highly precise sword fighter and has strong counterintelligence skills, including honey-trap techniques developed during her academy training. Her combat record, academic standing, and experience in foreign battlefields place her among the elite operatives of her organization.

In terms of relationships, her bond with Kato is the most significant, as she serves him with total loyalty and acts as his reliable subordinate both overseas and after her return. Her connection to Suzuki is one of mutual recognition rather than close friendship; the two speak candidly and cooperate in battle as peers. Her encounter with Saruta is shaped by the shared history of the academy, but it ends in her death. She is also connected to Hibi Ranran, another operative whose left eye was destroyed by Onikobe in a previous mission, leaving Ranran with a lasting grudge against her. Onikobe herself changes little over the course of the story; her arc is defined by a shift in assignment and location rather than a personal transformation, and she remains an unshakably loyal and lethal operative until her death.
