Description
Miracle Hibi is a supporting character in Under Ninja. He is a lower-ranked ninja affiliated with the organization NIN. Hibi was a graduate of the same ninja school as the protagonist Kuro Kumogakure, and the two became bitter rivals after Kuro employed a strategy during their graduation exam that caused Hibi to be struck by lightning. This incident left a Lichtenberg figure scar on the right side of his face and cost him his right eye, which was later replaced with a cybernetic eye containing a built-in camera. The lightning strike also gave him an unusual ability: he became highly resistant to electricity, allowing him to channel electric shocks through his body and into opponents during combat. He typically wears an electrified jacket and is known by the alias Thunder Hibi.

Hibi comes from a notable ninja lineage; he is the grandson of the honorary chairman of the Ninja Research Institute. Before joining NIN, he had a reputation as a legendary delinquent in the Nerima and western Tokyo areas, having subdued all local troublemakers. This past contributes to his confident and occasionally brash demeanor. He often raps in a clumsy, off-key manner, which has become a recognizable trait. Despite his outward self-assurance, he possesses a more nuanced personality: he is proud of his abilities and deeply resentful toward Kuro for the exam incident, even declaring at one point that he wants to kill him. Yet when they work together, he occasionally shows concern for Kuro, revealing a conflicted mix of hatred, rivalry, and old friendship.

His primary motivation is to prove himself superior to Kuro in mission accomplishments. He joins the infiltration operation at Kodan High School alongside Kuro, Suzuki, and Shion Hachiya, where he engages in multiple confrontations. He often fights head-on, using his electrical abilities to deliver shocks through direct contact, sometimes risking injury to himself in the process. He is blunt and delinquent-like in manner, and he frequently sustains heavy damage in battles but manages to survive through sheer luck or resilience, earning him the ironic nickname Miracle.

Hibi’s development traces a path from a vengeful rival to a reluctant but reliable comrade. While he never fully abandons his grudge against Kuro, he becomes an indispensable partner in the field. His key personal relationship is with his younger sister, Ranran Hibi, who supports him through technical analysis and communication. In the broader story, Hibi serves as a foil to Kuro, highlighting different aspects of ninja life—raw aggression and flamboyance versus cunning and subtlety—while also contributing to the series’ darkly comedic and action-oriented tone.
