Description
Kazuki Ryusen is a main character from the anime and light novel series The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic. He is a high school student who serves as the vice-president of his school's student council. Along with the student council president Suzune Inukami and their classmate Ken Usato, Kazuki is suddenly transported to the fantasy world of the Llinger Kingdom after being swallowed by a mysterious magic circle. Upon arrival, the kingdom's king explains that he summoned them to act as heroes in the coming war against the Demon Lord's army. While both Kazuki and Suzune are found to have the magical aptitude befitting such heroes, Usato is revealed to have a rare affinity for healing magic and is brought along by chance. Physically, Kazuki is a teenage male with brown hair cut to ear length and gray eyes.
Kazuki is depicted as a kind and protective individual, especially regarding the safety of his friends. However, his most defining trait is his strong sense of realism and his initial, vocal resistance to being forced into another world and a life-or-death conflict. Unlike some isekai protagonists, Kazuki does not immediately embrace his new role. Right after the summoning, he demands to be sent back home, feeling deeply unsettled and uneasy about the entire situation. This reluctance stems from his strong ties to his original world and the people in it. He is portrayed as the most fearful and reluctant of the three summoned students, with his voice of discontent being the loudest. His hesitation is fueled by the terrifying prospect of facing demonic entities in a real war, a situation he has no training or desire for. This realistic fear shows his human side and contrasts with more stereotypical heroes who are eager to fight. While the other heroes, particularly Suzune, find excitement or purpose in the new world, Kazuki’s primary motivation is the safety of his original classmates and a desire to return home.
Kazuki’s role in the story is that of one of the three summoned heroes from another world. While he is not the protagonist, his journey provides a grounded counterpoint to the more unusual circumstances of Ken Usato. Where Usato is forced into brutal healing training, Kazuki and Suzune are assigned to train as conventional warriors under Commander Sir Siglis and the other knights of the kingdom. His arc is centered on overcoming his fear and lack of resolve to fight for a kingdom he did not choose to serve. In a critical moment of development, Kazuki’s crippling fear and despair cause him to doubt his ability to face the Demon Lord's army. He recognizes that the demons will try to kill him with everything they have, a thought that leaves him unbelievably scared and lacking the resolve to lay down his life for a foreign land. He confides these doubts in Usato, who offers words of encouragement based on the kindness the people of Llinger have shown them. This conversation marks a turning point where Kazuki begins to set aside his fears and commit to the path before him. His relationship with Usato is particularly significant, as the two were not close in their original world. Their friendship began after a rainy day when Kazuki offered Usato his spare umbrella, and they walked home together, a conversation through which they truly bonded and became close friends. Kazuki’s bond with Suzune is also strong; they were friends and fellow student council members on Earth, and on the battlefield, they possess absolute trust in one another. However, after being summoned, Kazuki sees Suzune’s true, excitable personality as a fan of fantasy, and often has to restrain her when she gets carried away. Additionally, Kazuki develops a romantic affection for Princess Celia of the Llinger Kingdom.
Kazuki possesses abilities granted to him upon his summoning. His primary power is an affinity for Light Magic, a rare and potent form of magic recognized for its significant potential. Using this magic, he can project and control the trajectory of spheres of light, known as Light Orbs, as an offensive or tactical technique. To complement his magical abilities, Kazuki undergoes rigorous physical and martial training with the kingdom's knights. Under the tutelage of Commander Siglis, whom he greatly admires, Kazuki develops considerable physical strength and becomes highly skilled in swordsmanship, shaping him into a capable warrior for the front lines.
