Live action TV
Description
The character known as Kiyoharu Genpō, whose real name is Shiori, is an original creation for the 2014 live-action film adaptation of Black Butler, which is set in an alternate version of the year 2020. She does not appear in the original anime television series. In this film, Shiori is a seventeen-year-old descendant of the Phantomhive noble family, which relocated to an unnamed Eastern nation and changed its name to Genpō.

As a young child of only seven years old, Shiori endured a horrific trauma when her parents, Arihito and Erika, were assassinated before her eyes. She was subsequently kidnapped and subjected to torture, an ordeal that left her branded. In the depths of this despair, she entered into a Faustian contract with a demon, Sebastian Michaelis. In exchange for her soul, Sebastian would help her exact revenge on those responsible for her family's destruction. She re-emerged six months later, not as the girl Shiori, but as Kiyoharu Genpō, the bastard son of the late Earl. She adopted this male persona for a practical reason driven by the era's rules: only a male could inherit the Genpō estate, its vast wealth, and the title of the Queen's Watchdog, a role tasked with investigating the underworld's most dangerous crimes.

In her public role as Kiyoharu, Shiori is the head of the prosperous Funtom Corporation and serves as a noble agent of the Queen of the Western Nations. The film follows her investigation into a series of bizarre serial mummification deaths known as "The Devil's Curse". Her personality mirrors the archetype established by her distant relative, Ciel Phantomhive. She is portrayed as determined and incredibly arrogant, a "royal brat" who does not hesitate to verbally abuse her demon butler, despite the immense danger of their arrangement. Her traumatic past has left her with a profound emotional scar, rendering her literally unable to smile, a stark contrast to her cousin who could at least feign one. Her core motivation is an unwavering quest for revenge, and she uses her inherited resources and power as a means to an end, unflinchingly pursuing those who destroyed her family.

Her most significant relationship is, of course, with her butler, Sebastian. The dynamic is a contractual one built on mutual utility: he requires her soul, which can only be claimed upon the completion of her revenge, and she requires his supernatural abilities to survive and succeed. Her only other notable family connection is her aunt, Hanae Wakatsuki, who is revealed to be the hooded figure behind the Necrosis bio-weapon plot and complicit in the murder of Shiori's parents.

Throughout the film, Shiori demonstrates notable development. While she is initially cold and singularly focused on revenge, her resolve is tested when she must choose between her vendetta and saving innocent lives from a Necrosis bomb. In a heroic act, she prioritizes disarming the device over her own safety, even as the poison causes her to bleed from her ears and nose. At the film's conclusion, a significant moment of personal development occurs. As Sebastian stays by her bedside, she allows herself to imagine her father's comforting presence, and for the first time since her childhood tragedy, she exhibits a small, genuine smile.

As the Queen's Watchdog and heir to the Genpō fortune, she has access to immense resources and information networks. However, her most notable ability is her strategic mind, allowing her to lead investigations and navigate high-society criminal circles. She possesses no supernatural powers of her own; her extraordinary capabilities in combat and information gathering are entirely derived from her contract with Sebastian, who serves as her instrument of destruction.
