Description
Araiguma-kun's father is a recurring character who lives with his son in the forest. Physically, he closely resembles his son but appears slightly larger and with a darker coat. His most distinguishing features are his permanently upturned eyes and the deep wrinkles that are constantly set between his brows, giving him a perpetually irritated expression.

His defining characteristic is an all-encompassing, intense dislike for practically everything in existence. The creator has even stated that if there were anything he did not hate, it would probably be something he hated greatly. True to this description, he possesses an exceptionally short temper and becomes angry at the slightest provocation, often using any reason to lash out physically. A famous phrase associated with him, particularly in the anime, follows a pattern of stating that something or someone is unpleasant.

Despite his aggressive demeanor, his personality has a few notable nuances. He has a cowardly side and will quickly surrender and become polite if he encounters someone stronger than himself, most prominently illustrated during an encounter with a brown bear. Interestingly, while he is quick to anger with his own family, he tends to be comparatively gentle with other children. He has been shown to answer questions from Bonobono in a relatively kind manner.

His relationship with his son, Araiguma-kun, is complex and characterized by frequent fighting. The father is a significant reason for his son's violent tendencies, as Araiguma-kun is greatly influenced by him and, like his parent, often ends up in the victim's position when facing him. Despite their constant arguments, their relationship is not fundamentally bad. The father cares for his son in his own way, and they are often seen going off somewhere together with a smile, indicating a level of mutual respect and affection beneath the surface.

His role within his own family is further defined by his marital separation. Araiguma-kun's mother is on a journey, and the reason for this differs between the original manga and the anime. In the manga, the father had a habit of wandering off alone when his son was young, which led to his wife becoming envious of his freedom and eventually leaving on a trip of her own. In the 1995 anime, however, he is portrayed as a more caring husband who actively encourages his wife to travel and see the world because she knows nothing of it. In this version, he assures her he will take care of their son and sends her off with a smile. This leads to a stark contrast in their portrayed relationship; the anime shows them on good terms, while the manga depicts them falling into an argument whenever they meet, though they do not truly hate each other.

A notable aspect of his character is his practical skill with his hands. He has created numerous mechanical contraptions and devices inside his home. These serve various purposes, from being traps to deal with his rival, the wolverine's father, to security measures for his food storage. The inventions are numerous and quite useful, though some are of such an odd or specific nature that one might question their necessity.
