Description
Irina Jelavic is a professional assassin who serves as the English language teacher for Class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High School. She is a young woman in her early twenties with long, curly blonde hair and blue eyes, standing 170 centimeters tall. Originally from Serbia, she was brought up in a war-torn environment where she experienced significant trauma; at the age of twelve, her family was killed, an event that forced her to take her first life to survive. Following this, she was taken in by a master assassin named Lovro, who trained her in the arts of killing.

Her personality is layered and evolves significantly. On the surface, she is confident, flamboyant, and thrives on attention, often dressing in stylish or revealing clothing. She is a master of seduction and uses her beauty and acting talents as her primary weapons, specializing in infiltrating targets’ lives by pretending to fall in love with them before delivering the killing blow. However, this persona is largely a professional facade. Beneath it, she is surprisingly immature and socially awkward, partly because she was forced to grow up too quickly in the criminal underworld. She can be hot-headed, prone to childish outbursts, and is notably inexperienced with normal social interactions and romantic feelings of her own.

Irina is initially hired by the government to assist in the assassination of the yellow octopus-like creature known as Koro-sensei. She arrives at the school with a dismissive and arrogant attitude toward the students, viewing them as incompetent children unworthy of her time. Her first attempted assassination, which relies on conventional seduction tactics and bullets, fails spectacularly, leading to an embarrassing retaliation from her target. After this failure, she is persuaded by her colleague, the defense officer Tadaomi Karasuma, to take her role as a teacher seriously. She begrudgingly begins to teach the students not only English but also her expertise in negotiation, poisons, and covert techniques.

Her primary motivation gradually shifts from simply killing Koro-sensei to wanting to prove her worth as both an assassin and a teacher. As she spends time with Class 3-E, she finds herself genuinely caring for the students, something that surprises her. This leads to internal conflict, particularly when her traumatic past is exploited by another assassin known as the Reaper, nearly causing her to betray the class. Ultimately, she rejects that path and solidifies her place as a beloved, if unconventional, member of the class.

Her key relationships define her growth. She harbors deep romantic feelings for the stoic and serious Karasuma, though she is incredibly clumsy and shy about expressing them directly, which contrasts sharply with her usual seductive confidence. The students of Class 3-E, particularly girls like Toka Yada and Hinano Kurahashi, also become important to her; they look up to her as an older sister figure and seek her advice on matters of charm and communication, while she in turn learns about loyalty and friendship from them. She is frequently called Bitch-sensei by the students—a nickname derived from the mispronunciation of her surname—which she initially despises but later accepts as a term of endearment.

In terms of abilities, Irina is not a frontline combat specialist. Her physical fighting skills with guns or knives are considered roughly on par with the trained students, as her mentor focused her education entirely on infiltration and psychological manipulation. She is genuinely proficient in ten different languages, which aids in her international assignments. Her signature technique involves using deep, performative kisses as either a distraction or a means of passing hidden objects, which she also uses as an eccentric punishment for students who fail her quizzes. Over the course of the series, she develops more practical assassination skills, including marksmanship with specialized weapons designed for their unique target.

By the conclusion of the story, Irina has undergone a complete personal transformation. She leaves behind her solitary life as a high-end hitwoman, accepts a position within the Japanese government as a spy, and marries Tadaomi Karasuma. The couple eventually has a daughter, marking Irina’s transition from a life of cold-blooded isolation to one of warmth, family, and genuine human connection.
