Description
Kou Taiki, known in his Sailor Guardian form as Sailor Star Maker, is one of the three members of the Sailor Starlights, a trio of warriors from the planet Kinmoku who arrive on Earth in the events of the film. As a civilian, Taiki adopts the identity of a male idol in the popular pop group the Three Lights, using this disguise to search for his lost princess, Kakyuu, who fled to Earth after their home star system was ravaged by the forces of Sailor Galaxia. Taiki is widely regarded as the most intellectual and cool-headed member of the group, possessing a sharp, analytical mind that rivals that of Ami Mizuno. He values logic and reason, and initially dismisses what he considers to be frivolous or overly sentimental behavior, such as romantic notions. However, his interactions with the Earth’s Sailor Guardians begin to soften this rigid perspective, and he gradually comes to appreciate the value of hope and dreams.
Taiki's primary motivation is his unwavering devotion to Princess Kakyuu. Everything he does, from performing as a musician to attending Juban High School, is in service of finding and protecting her. He is deeply serious about his mission and can be cautious and distrustful of outsiders, particularly when he believes their involvement might jeopardize the search or endanger the princess. This caution leads him to initially keep the Sailor Guardians at a distance and to urge his teammate Seiya to avoid becoming too close to Usagi Tsukino. Despite this guarded exterior, Taiki possesses a deep well of compassion. He is moved by the plight of a sick girl named Misa, whose drawings of the princess renew his hope during a moment of despair. In battle, he is the first of the Starlights to show mercy by allowing Sailor Moon to purify a monster rather than destroy it, influenced by the respect the target held for Ami.
In the story, the Sailor Starlights serve as key allies to Sailor Moon and her friends. After the inner and outer Sailor Guardians are systematically eliminated by Sailor Galaxia, Taiki and the other Starlights become Sailor Moon’s sole protectors, swearing to defend her with their lives as they journey toward the Galaxy Cauldron for the final confrontation. His relationship with the other Starlights is built on deep trust and shared purpose, though he often acts as the voice of reason between the impulsive Seiya and the blunt Yaten. While he remains skeptical of Earth’s Guardians for much of the film, his views on Usagi evolve for the better as he witnesses her strength and kindness, leading to a genuine, if understated, respect for her.
Taiki’s notable abilities include his transformation into Sailor Star Maker, which he initiates with the phrase “Maker Star Power, Make Up.” As Sailor Star Maker, he wears a dark, leather-like fuku and wields the attack “Star Gentle Uterus,” which manifests as a powerful energy blast. In the Three Lights, he is responsible for playing the keyboard and composing music, and he also contributes to the group’s background vocals. Beyond his musical talents, Taiki is an avid poet and a member of the school’s literature club, reflecting his thoughtful and introspective nature.
