Description
Kazeo Kaburagi is the central protagonist of the film. He transfers into Suzuran All-Boys High School as a third-year student, having previously been enrolled at the Takiya Sangyo commercial high school. He is a tall figure, and due to his past at the Takiya Chamber of Commerce, he is well-known for having defeated its four strongest fighters, earning a formidable reputation before ever setting foot in Suzuran.

Despite his fearsome capabilities, Kazeo is defined by a deep-seated reluctance to engage in violence. He has a mindset that actively avoids getting involved in fights and expresses no interest in conquering the school or vying for the top spot. This pacifistic attitude is rooted in a personal tragedy: his father was a professional boxer who lost his life due to injuries sustained during a match. Following this traumatic event, Kazeo spent some time in a nursery home before eventually living with his mother.

His initial detachment is tested as he is drawn into the escalating conflict between the various factions at Suzuran and the neighboring Kurosaki Industrial High School. His key ally is Kenichi Ogisu, who recognizes Kazeo's strength after he effortlessly knocks out a student with a single punch on his first day. Ogisu tries to recruit him to help take control of the school, but Kazeo repeatedly refuses. However, after Ogisu and others are hospitalized by the antagonistic Ryohei Kagami and his gang, Kazeo is finally spurred into action, realizing he can no longer stand by and watch his friends get hurt.

His primary rival is Ryohei Kagami, another transfer student with a ruthless ambition to become the top fighter. Unlike Kazeo, Kagami actively seeks to dominate Suzuran through violence and intimidation. Their conflict culminates in an intense, lengthy final battle on the school rooftop, from which Kazeo emerges victorious. This victory allows him to unite the school, and he ultimately becomes the number one fighter, setting his sights on the final obstacle: the legendary and undefeated Rindaman.

Kazeo also forms a connection with Ken Katagiri, an older former yakuza who once attended Suzuran. Ken pleads with Kazeo to stop Ryohei not only for the sake of the school but for the misguided young man's own good, adding a layer of moral weight to the final confrontation. His relationships are generally understated; while he is solitary and reserved, he demonstrates a sense of loyalty that eventually compels him to fight for others rather than for personal glory.

Regarding his fighting abilities, Kazeo is exceptionally strong, even though he avoids combat. Early in the film, Ogisu ranks him as the fifth-best fighter in Suzuran based purely on his prior reputation. When he does fight, he displays tremendous power, famously defeating the challenger Kouhei Yamashita with a single kick. In supplementary comic materials that reinforce the story, his strength is depicted as being on par with legendary Suzuran fighters from the past, such as Genji Takiya and Tamao Serizawa, forming a top tier of power in the city alongside Toru Goura and Hiroki Shibata. Despite the film focusing more on the emotional and relational aspects of the conflict than on a high volume of one-on-one brawls, his final victory over Kagami solidifies his status as a truly formidable force.
