Description
Non Manaka is the younger sister of Laala Manaka, the original protagonist of the anime. She first appears as a supporting character in the first season and later becomes a main character from the third season onward. Non is a fourth‑grade elementary school student who attends Paprika Private Academy. She has a calm and mature disposition, which contrasts sharply with her older sister’s impulsive and clumsy nature. Despite being the younger sibling, she often acts as the responsible one and provides practical support to her sister.

From the earliest episodes, Non shows a deep fascination with the idol world. She keeps herself constantly informed about the latest developments in PriPara, watches idol broadcasts, and studies various performers. Her initial role in the story is that of a supportive family member who helps Laala pursue her dream of becoming an idol. However, her own ambition to become an idol grows over time. She is highly motivated to surpass her sister and eventually stand at the top of the PriPara world. This desire drives much of her later actions.

When Non finally receives her own PriPara ticket at the start of the third season, she does not simply debut as herself. Instead, she creates three distinct avatars: Kanon, a flower‑fairy‑themed Lovely type; Pinon, a princess from the fictional Pinon Star, representing the Pop type; and Junon, an extremely cool butterfly‑themed idol representing the Cool type. Using a combination of holographic recordings and her ability to switch between these personalities, she forms the secret unit TRIANGLE. She manages to perform as three separate idols simultaneously, a feat that no one in PriPara had thought possible. This ability to embody three completely different character types demonstrates her meticulous preparation and her talent for acting.

During the third season, Non’s secret is eventually exposed in front of a large audience. Instead of being rejected, she is accepted by her sister and the other idols, which allows her to shift her approach. She then seeks to build a team of her own. She recruits the shy but eccentric Chiri Tsukikawa and the wild‑natured Pepper Taiyo, forming the group NonSugar. The three initially struggle with clashing personalities, but after a survival exercise and several trials, they forge a genuine bond. NonSugar eventually wins the fourth God Idol Grand Prix, though they fall short in the final against SoLaMi SMILE. Throughout this process, Non learns that true teamwork requires accepting and trusting her members, not just relying on technical skill.

Non’s key relationships include her sister Laala, whom she both supports and competes with. She respects Laala as an idol but is determined to surpass her. Her manager is Usacha, a young but ambitious mascot who helps her with the TRIANGLE project. Within NonSugar, she grows close to Chiri and Pepper, and their initial conflicts evolve into strong friendship. She also admires many idols, including Falulu, Aromageddon, and Fuwari Midorikaze, and is a known fan of the group Pink Actress.

In terms of development, Non transforms from a passive fan and helpful little sister into a proactive, strategic idol who takes risks and learns from failure. She starts out relying on calculated plans and imitation but gradually learns the value of sincerity and cooperation. Her character arc emphasizes that hard work and adaptability can overcome initial disadvantages. By the end of the third season, she becomes one of the most popular idols in Parajuku, and in the subsequent series Idol Time PriPara, she continues to rise in popularity, establishing herself as a top idol in her own right.

Notable abilities include her extraordinary flexibility in performance, her ability to create and switch between multiple idol personas perfectly, and her knack for thinking on her feet during crises. She is also deeply knowledgeable about the mechanics of PriPara, which allows her to devise innovative strategies that bend existing norms. Her physical agility and stamina are also highlighted, as she maintains high‑energy routines across different character modes. Overall, Non Manaka represents a character who blends careful planning with eventual emotional growth, becoming a multifaceted idol who earns her place through both talent and perseverance.
