TV-Series
Description
Calimero is a small, anthropomorphic black chick who is distinguished as the only dark-feathered member in a family of yellow or white chickens. His most iconic physical trait is the half of his white eggshell that he wears perched on his head like a hat, a remnant from his hatching that has become his signature visual feature. He originally appeared in 1963 as a character in animated Italian television advertisements before being adapted into a full anime series.

In terms of personality, Calimero is best known for his strong sense of being treated unfairly, often exclaiming a catchphrase about injustice when faced with a setback. He is a well-meaning but hapless figure whose good intentions frequently lead to comedic misfortunes. Despite his tendency to complain about his small size and unique color, he possesses a determined and optimistic outlook, consistently rallying against perceived wrongs with a strong sense of justice. His character is defined by a deep-seated feeling of being an underdog, which fuels his reactions to the world around him.

Calimero's primary motivation is a desire for fairness and to overcome the prejudice or simple bad luck he encounters because he is different from his peers. He is driven to confront inequality and bullying, not through aggression, but through persistence and resourcefulness. His actions are often a response to feeling excluded or mistreated, and he seeks to prove that being small or different does not make someone less capable or deserving of respect.

Within the story, Calimero serves as the hero of his various adventures, which typically revolve around solving mysteries, making documentaries, or exploring his environment. His role evolved across different series iterations. In earlier portrayals, he was often a victim of circumstance who needed help from his parents, Gallettoni and Cesira. Later adaptations, particularly the 1992 series, shifted him into a more proactive and heroic role, where he leads a group of friends to investigate mysteries and fight injustices. The 2013 CGI series reimagined him as an explorer who discovers the inventions of his ancestor, Do Vinci, in a secret laboratory.

Calimero's key relationships are central to his world. His closest companion is Priscilla, a yellow chick who serves as his girlfriend and a voice of reason. Another significant relationship is with Peter, a duck who begins as a rival and bully but later reforms to become one of Calimero's friends. In the 1992 series, his circle expands to include other allies such as Valeriano, a green chick with a red helmet, and Susie, a bespectacled wealthy duck, forming a team that works together to solve problems. His parents, while not always the focus, provide a supportive family background.

The character shows a clear development from his origins. He began as the protagonist of simple commercial shorts where his black color was explained as dirt that could be washed away. As he transitioned into a standalone anime series, this concept was abandoned, and his black feathers became a permanent, inherent trait. His personality also matured over time, evolving from a purely misfortune-prone comic figure into a determined leader who proactively tackles challenges. The settings and central premises of his adventures shifted as well, from a general farmyard to the specific town of Belladagio, where he uncovers a legacy of invention.

Calimero does not possess any supernatural or extraordinary abilities. His strengths lie in his loyalty, empathy, and unwavering sense of justice. His notable abilities are his resourcefulness and his creative approach to conflict resolution, often relying on his wits and the help of his friends to get out of trouble. His persistence is his greatest tool, allowing him to overcome obstacles that seem insurmountable for a chick of his small size.
