Description
Maho Akashi is a central character from the D4DJ franchise, known for serving as the DJ of the unit Happy Around!. She is a second-year student at Yoba Academy. Her physical appearance is marked by sharp blue eyes and short brownish-black hair accented with yellow highlights. While her hair initially reaches just past her ears to nearly her shoulders, it grows slightly longer over time. She also has a noticeably tanner complexion compared to many of her peers and possesses a fit, athletic build.
Maho's passion for music has a clear origin: she was deeply moved by a DJ performance at a music festival she attended as a child, an experience that inspired her to immerse herself in the world of DJing. She eventually began practicing under the pseudonym DJ Mash. Her path to forming Happy Around! began when she was persistently persuaded by her classmate Rinku Aimoto to start a unit together. Before this, Maho managed her school's broadcasting booth.
In terms of personality, Maho presents a relaxed and easygoing exterior with a tomboyish streak. Despite this cool and laid-back demeanor, she is notably caring and responsible, traits that her fellow unit members often praise. This sense of duty is rooted in her family background; her father works as a firefighter and her mother as a nurse, which led to Maho frequently taking care of her younger siblings on her own. Within Happy Around!, she has a good friendship with Rei Togetsu, often developing musical tracks from melodies Rei creates, and she often bickers with and teases the prideful Muni Ohnaruto. Outside her unit, she is good friends with Shinobu Inuyose of Merm4id, forming a friendly rivalry as fellow DJs. Maho also shares a past with Dalia Matsuyama, as they attended the same karate dojo when Maho was in elementary school; she admired Dalia's talent then and practiced karate mainly due to that admiration. She is also a friend and collaborator with Saki Izumo, helping Saki with her music despite sometimes feeling inferior to her talent.
Maho's development throughout the story sees her growing from a solo act into a confident leader and collaborative force within Happy Around!. She evolves her skills from just DJing to also producing tracks, and she overcomes fleeting insecurities regarding her talent and the stability of her unit. Her abilities are diverse. As a DJ, she is dedicated to improving her performance and creating music. She is also a skilled cook who loves to test recipes, and she maintains her healthy figure through athletic activities, being particularly good at basketball and having a background in martial arts. In her downtime, she enjoys caring for her pet tropical fish in her aquarium.
