Description
Ram RaJendra is a character in the anime Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199, where he is presented as a reimagined and expanded version of the earlier character Ram, who previously served as the captain of the flagship Ra-Jendra. In this telling, he is the Grand Duke of the planet Berse, a constituent world of the Bolar Federation, and the supreme commander of the Berse Defense Forces. He comes from the RaJendra royal line, which has governed Berse for many generations, and he rules the planet in the present era of the story, which is set around the year 2207. At that time, his age is given as roughly fifty-two years in Earth-equivalent terms. He is described as a compassionate leader who values science and rationality, and his dedication to his homeworld is expressed in his conviction that the land of Berse must be protected at all costs.

Ram is introduced as a capable and principled military commander whose reputation is such that Desler, the leader of the Galman-Gamilas empire, reportedly regards him as an opponent he would prefer not to fight. In the course of the story, Ram leads the operation known as the Galman Star Explosion, an offensive against the Galman star system. The operation fails when his forces are defeated by the battleship Yamato, and he is taken prisoner by the Galman-Gamilas military. When he is brought before Desler, the two men recognize that both of their worlds are being driven toward destruction by an unexplained cooling phenomenon, and Ram pledges to investigate its cause. Through this investigation, he discovers that the source of the cooling is the Dezarium fortress known as Digaburas. To explain this, he reveals the truth about the Witch of Uralia, a subject that is treated as a forbidden superstition within the Bolar Federation. Ram becomes convinced that the fortress cannot be overcome unless this superstition is broken, and he ultimately resolves to confront his former friend, Berm von Bemlerze, in order to do so.

His role in the story shifts from that of a hostile officer acting on behalf of the Bolar Federation to an ally of the Yamato and Galman-Gamilas forces. During the conflict over Galman, his flagship, the Ra-Jendra, brings a new Bolar cannon to bear on the holy capital Ruda, but the attack is halted when Yamato strikes the ship with its shock cannon and disables its engines. Later, a change of heart on Ram's part enables the defenders of Galman to anticipate the arrival of a planet-destroying missile and prepare for it. He then enters into a cooperative relationship with Desler and the crew of Yamato to pursue the Witch of Uralia in the Ganel Nebula. His insistence on treating the Witch as a real enemy with a physical form, rather than a supernatural force, helps the alliance move forward. With the permission of the Bolar home government, he later brings his fleet to reinforce the combined assault that ultimately destroys the Digaburas fortress.

In terms of key relationships, the most important are his connections to Desler and to Berm von Bemlerze. The meeting with Desler transforms what begins as an enemy confrontation into a shared investigation and later a military alliance. His decision to face Berm, a former friend, represents a deliberate break with the traditions of the Bolar Federation and is central to his character arc. Ram also interacts with members of the Yamato crew, and his conversations with them contribute to the growing trust between the formerly opposed sides.

Ram's development is defined by a movement from confrontation to cooperation. He begins as an instrument of Bolar policy, carrying out an attack on Galman, then becomes a prisoner, then a source of forbidden knowledge, and finally a trusted ally of powers that were once his enemies. The trait that drives this development is his respect for evidence over tradition. He is willing to challenge the customs of his own federation when those customs stand in the way of saving his world.

His notable abilities are those of a ruler and military leader rather than a personal combatant. He commands the Berse Defense Forces and the flagship Ra-Jendra, directs fleet operations, and holds the political authority of the Grand Duke. He is also a capable analyst who combines scientific thinking with decisiveness, and it is this combination of rational judgment, command experience, and moral conviction that makes him an effective and respected figure within the larger conflict.
