Description
Fratorte, also spelled Flatorte, is a character introduced in the second season of the anime I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level 2. She is a member of the Blue Dragon Tribe and the daughter of characters named Cainresq and Armeshtan. Initially, she appears as an antagonist, interrupting the wedding of Laika's sister, Leila, as part of a long-standing conflict between the Blue and Red Dragon clans. During this attack, she is defeated by the immensely powerful witch Azusa Aizawa. Following the battle, due to a combination of Pecora's mischief and the Blue Dragon Tribe's customs, Azusa accidentally touches Fratorte's horns. This act invokes an ancient oath of absolute obedience from the Blue Dragons, binding Fratorte as Azusa's servant. Azusa, however, finds this oath cruel and uses a loophole to command Fratorte to simply live according to her own desires, freeing her from the strict tradition. Touched by this kindness, Fratorte willingly chooses to obey Azusa and joins her growing household on the Highland farm.
In terms of personality, Fratorte is initially portrayed as brash, impulsive, and haughty, openly scorning the Red Dragon Clan and acting on her emotions directly. This straightforward nature often makes her seem like a foolish or excitable child, as her actions follow immediately from her feelings. She is highly energetic and loves challenges and competition. After joining Azusa's family, her demeanor softens considerably, but she retains her blunt honesty and a disregard for subtlety, such as openly criticizing an artist's gloomy work without hesitation. She is also shown to have a more relaxed and surprisingly quiet side when she is not feeling stressed. Despite her main role as a rival to Laika, her competitive spirit is often played for comedy, such as when their fierce face-offs devolve into serious games of ping-pong or baking contests.
Physically, Fratorte takes the form of an adult woman with lilac purple hair styled into loops on either side of her head and light green eyes. Her draconic features include a set of backward-facing horns and a long, reptilian blue tail, which she does not hide even in her human form.
Fratorte's primary motivation shifts over the course of the story. Initially driven by tribal rivalry and a desire to assert her clan's strength, her defeat and subsequent binding to Azusa transform her goals. She develops a deep admiration for Azusa, viewing her as a mother figure or an older sister, and is highly motivated to serve her. She calls Azusa master and is fiercely loyal, having been given the one thing her strict dragon traditions did not allow: freedom. Her key relationship remains with her rival Laika, a Red Dragon. While they continue to be competitive and argue frequently, their rivalry exists alongside a deep friendship and an old acquaintance. The dynamic between Laika and Fratorte is one of the recurring comedic and heartfelt elements in the household.
In terms of role in the story, Fratorte is a major supporting character who adds new dynamics to Azusa's family. Her arrival transitions the conflict between dragon clans into a peaceful coexistence under Azusa's roof. She is often used for comedic relief due to her impulsiveness and competitive nature, but also provides moments of surprising maturity or talent. Her presence, along with her parents from the Blue Dragon village, often serves to showcase the absurd power gap between normal monsters and the maxed-out Azusa, who can effortlessly defeat whole villages of dragons.
Fratorte possesses several notable abilities. As a Blue Dragon, her primary power is the control of cold and ice, allowing her to breathe ice and survive in freezing temperatures, though she is weak to heat. She can also fly in her dragon form, matching the speed of the Red Dragon Laika. Beyond combat, she has demonstrated significant artistic and musical talent. She plays the lute proficiently, sings very well, and has even won awards in painting competitions, showing an artistic sense superior to some other characters. She is also a skilled cook and baker, able to compete on equal footing with Laika in culinary challenges, such as a cookie duel or expertly cooking beast meat with minimal tools.
