Description
Dinelind is an elf who makes her first appearance in the tenth volume of the manga, as the party led by the protagonist, Will, journeys toward the Rust Mountains. She is introduced in a state of extreme peril, discovered by the elf Menel after she has been bitten by a hydra and is barely clinging to life. Following the monster’s defeat, Will is able to heal her wounds, and a grateful Dinelind guides the group back to her home.

Her home is Lothdor, also referred to as Rosdoll, the Land of Flowers. This elf village, once a neighbor to the dwarves, is in a state of severe decline when Will and his companions arrive. The air and land have been poisoned by the miasma emanating from the territory of a malevolent dragon, Valacirca, which has slowly made the villagers ill and brought about famine. Despite the suffering of her people, Dinelind is initially hesitant to accept help, a reluctance that stems from the deep-seated pride of the elves.

Dinelind’s personality is shaped by her circumstances and her heritage. She is shown to be deeply concerned for her village, having made the personal sacrifice of leaving Lothdor to reduce the number of mouths to feed during the famine. Her pride manifests as a resistance to becoming a burden, as she struggles to allow Will and his friends to shoulder the problems of her people, especially knowing they are on their own dangerous mission to confront the dragon. She is often called "Dine" for short by those around her.

Her role in the narrative is that of a guide and a catalyst for the arc. She is instrumental in leading Will and his party to Lothdor, thereby revealing the full extent of the devastation caused by the dragon's miasma and setting the stage for their intervention. After Will spends a night healing many of the afflicted villagers, she accompanies the party and two experienced elf soldiers into the cursed forest to detoxify the environment, leading them to the great tree at its center. Following the resolution of the immediate crisis in her homeland, Dinelind requests to join Will and the others in their fight against the dragon. However, Will refuses her offer, deeming her and the other elves too weak for such a dangerous confrontation, and unwilling to bring anyone who would slow them down. Despite this refusal, she guides them as far as the entrance to the dragons domain, the Iron Nation.

Dinelind’s key relationships are primarily with the main party, especially Menel and Will. Menel is the one who finds her and immediately displays a teasing, lighthearted nature around her, such as jokingly claiming he had to kiss her to wake her from her unconsciousness. Her interactions with Will are more formal and center on the exchange of aid; she provides him with guidance to the root of the problem, and he provides miraculous healing for her people. Her character arc within this story segment is one of reluctantly learning to accept outside aid for the sake of her community, moving from a position of proud self-sufficiency to becoming a grateful, if not entirely comfortable, recipient of a paladin’s charity. She demonstrates no notable combat or magical abilities of her own, serving instead as a representative of the common people suffering under a great evil.
