Description
Haruka Suzumiya is a character who appears in the Muv-Luv Alternative narrative, where her role is defined by a profound shift from frontline duty to critical support. Her background establishes her as the elder sister of Akane Suzumiya and the daughter of a university professor, growing up in a notably large and beautiful home with a garage. Prior to the events of the main story, she was a classmate and close friend of Mitsuki Hayase during their training days. Haruka demonstrated exceptional potential as a pilot, even serving as a squad leader and being considered a step above her peers like Mitsuki. However, during a comprehensive evaluation exercise, she was severely injured in an accident involving a high-speed train, which led to a bacterial infection and the amputation of both her legs below the ankle. Through regenerative surgery using artificial replication technology, she regained the ability to walk without difficulty in daily life.

In terms of personality, Haruka is characterized as having a quiet, shy, and gentle nature, often described as a natural and reserved individual. Despite this soft exterior, she possesses a strong inner will, and it is noted that she can be quite frightening when angered. Her disposition is that of a kind-hearted person, and she has a known interest in collecting picture books.

Within the story of Muv-Luv Alternative, Haruka serves as a Command Post Officer (CP Officer) for the Special Task Force A-01, holding the rank of First Lieutenant. This role is a direct consequence of her previous injuries, which, while healed for everyday life, preclude her from returning to active pilot duty. As a controller, she is responsible for managing the operational area and directing the flow of battle from a command position. Her motivations stem from her dedication to her duty and her fellow soldiers, applying her skills and knowledge to protect them and ensure mission success from a safer vantage point.

Key relationships heavily define her character. She is the older sister of Akane Suzumiya and is a former comrade and good friend of Mitsuki Hayase. Her past is also intertwined with Narumi Takayuki, a figure from her pre-amnesia life. A significant portion of her backstory, explored in related narratives, involves a severe car accident and a subsequent comatose state lasting three years. Upon awakening, she suffered from anterograde amnesia, a condition where forming new memories is difficult. To protect her fragile mental state, her family and loved ones concealed the passage of time, a decision that generates much of the surrounding story's tension.

Her development is marked by a tragic trajectory from a promising, talented trainee pilot to a non-combat operator. This transition is not a choice but a necessity forced by her injury, representing a loss of her original career path and physical capability. She adapts to this new life, finding purpose and value in her role as a command officer. Her notable abilities, while once including exceptional aptitude as a melee pilot, now lie in her strategic oversight and coordination skills. She is competent and effective as a controller, ensuring the effective functioning of her squadron during operations.
