Description
Kenji Murase is a childhood friend and former classmate of the series' protagonist, Kankichi Ryotsu. He first appears as a third-grade elementary school student, coming from a wealthy family, in stark contrast to the rough-and-tumble Ryotsu. As a child, Murase was a gentle and sensitive boy who suffered severely from bullying by other children. His lack of athletic ability made him an easy target until Ryotsu took notice of his plight.
Ryotsu took Murase under his wing, teaching him how to play with a spinning top. Through rigorous special training, Murase overcame his lack of physical coordination and eventually became a neighborhood champion top-spinner. This shared experience forged a deep bond of friendship between the two boys.
