Shidō Nakamura is a Japanese actor born on September 14, 1972, in Tokyo, Japan. He is a second-generation kabuki actor, having debuted on stage at the age of eight and assuming his professional name at that time. His real name is Mikihiro Ogawa. While kabuki remains his primary artistic foundation, he has built a substantial career in film, television, and voice acting.
Nakamura began voice acting for anime and film dubbing in the early 2000s. He gained early recognition for his live-action performance as Dragon in the 2002 film Ping Pong, a role that earned him five major newcomer awards, including the Japan Academy Prize. This success helped establish him as a versatile performer capable of moving between traditional theater and contemporary media.
In the world of anime, Nakamura is best known for providing the voice of Ryuk, the shinigami, across multiple installments of the Death Note franchise. He voiced the character in the Death Note television anime series, as well as in the animated specials Death Note Relight - Visions of a God and Death Note Relight 2 - L's Successors.
