Description
Gen'un begins as a powerful Heian-era monk defending humanity against Oni. He wields formidable magic, obliterating Oni hordes and massive Oni with supernatural strength. He transports modern teenager Jun Tendo 1,200 years into the past, identifying Jun as the prophesied savior from the Magatama clan lineage. Gen'un mentors Jun, instructing him to awaken the dragon Yamata no Orochi to destroy the Oni.
Gen'un's true goal is revealed: the pursuit of ultimate power and godhood. He assassinates a temple councillor to conceal his schemes and uses magic to transform the samurai Raiko Minamoto and his comrades into the Four Heavenly Kings, mind-controlled armored warriors serving his agenda. When Jun resists Gen'un's genocidal campaign against the Oni, Gen'un turns hostile.
Gen'un fuses with the Four Heavenly Kings, becoming a monstrous Buddha-like entity. This form grants him catastrophic powers, liquefying terrain into molten lava and summoning meteor projectiles. He attacks indiscriminately, targeting both humans and Oni.
In the final confrontation, Gen'un battles Jun, who wields Orochi's power and an ancestral sword. Orochi, empowered by Jun's resolve, overwhelms Gen'un with hydrokinetic force, defeating him and ending his pursuit of godhood.
Gen'un's background includes manipulating the war between humans and Oni; he exiled the Oni from their homeland to colonize it, concealing this fact to justify their extermination. His backstory also involves executing Raiko Minamoto's parents, a revelation used during the conflict to undermine Raiko's loyalty.
