Description
Danjūrō Namakubi serves as the principal of Paradice High School, an institution that appears respectable on the surface but operates under a brutal and oppressive regime. He is an older man with white hair and a traditional Japanese style of dress, though his aged appearance is deceptive. Beneath a fake head he wears, his true face is youthful, a physical manifestation of the demonic bargain that sustains him.
Personality wise, Namakubi is a tyrant who rules his school through absolute terror. He forces students to undergo ruthless training to become killers and demands complete submission to the faculty, regardless of how immoral the orders may be. He is coldly pragmatic and displays little regard for the lives of his students, calmly ordering a massacre when they riot because he believes replacements can always be found. Despite his cruelty, he possesses a sharp mind, recognizing that none of his subordinates possess the strength to defeat his true rival, Daemon Abashiri.
Namakubi's motivations stem from a desire for power and control, which he secured by selling his soul to demons. This pact granted him supernatural abilities and eternal youth, allowing him to maintain his position as the absolute ruler of Paradice High. He is driven by his long standing rivalry with Daemon Abashiri, having clashed with him on three separate occasions, and is determined to eliminate any threats to his authority, including Daemon's daughter, Kikunosuke Abashiri.
Within the story, Namakubi functions as the primary antagonist and the dark mirror to Daemon Abashiri, a role similar to that of a slum king opposing a violent hero. He first appears discussing the school's false policy of good behavior before orchestrating threats against Kikunosuke. He later approves an order to kill her, deeming her too dangerous to live, and commands the execution of rioting students. His final confrontation with Daemon forms the climax of his arc, where he reveals the source of his powers.
His key relationship is with Daemon Abashiri, his sworn rival. Their history of three fights defines much of his actions, and he ultimately forbids his men from engaging Daemon, insisting on handling the matter himself. He also has significant interactions with Daemon's children, Naojiro and Kikunosuke Abashiri. Naojiro attacks him first, but Namakubi easily overpowers the young robot, while he views Kikunosuke as a threat to be eliminated.
In terms of development, Namakubi's true nature is gradually revealed. He initially appears as a stern but seemingly normal old principal, but his demonic powers and youthful face are exposed as the conflict escalates. His ultimate fate arrives when Daemon Abashiri slices his floating head in half, finally ending the demonic principal's reign.
Namakubi possesses several notable supernatural abilities. His most prominent power is control over his own hair, which he can manipulate like tentacles to grapple and constrict opponents. He can also generate and discharge powerful electric shocks through these hair strands. His demonic pact grants him an unnatural resilience, allowing him to survive decapitation and continue fighting as a living, flying head. He can float and move freely even when separated from his body, and his youthful appearance is maintained by the same demonic forces that empower him.
