Description
Masataka Kiyomizu, better known by the nickname Kiyomasa, is a minor antagonist in Tokyo Revengers who serves as an early obstacle for the protagonist Takemichi Hanagaki. He is a former member of the Tokyo Manji Gang who was expelled before the gang’s rise, after which he formed his own small gang composed of third-year students from Shibuya Third Middle School. During the main timeline of 2005, Kiyomasa is a fourteen-year-old student, though his tall and muscular build makes him appear older. He is born on January 18, 1991, stands at 1.82 meters, and weighs 74 kilograms. His most prominent physical feature is a scar across his left eyebrow, and he has black hair styled into a small pompadour with narrow, menacing eyes. He typically wears the Shibuya school uniform and is often seen smoking cigarettes.
Kiyomasa possesses a cruel and merciless personality, relishing the domination of those he considers weaker than himself. He shows no hesitation in using violence to assert his authority and frequently resorts to weapons such as a baseball bat to harm others. Despite his intimidating demeanor, he is fundamentally a coward who avoids confrontation with anyone he perceives as stronger; he only bullies those he can easily overpower. This is plainly evident when he initially refuses to bow to Mikey and Draken despite knowing their reputation, but he is forced into submission by Draken, and later attempts to exact revenge by trying to stab Draken out of spite. His arrogance is matched by a deep vengefulness, and he acts without proper authority from the Tokyo Manji Gang leadership, running an illicit underground fighting ring where he forces younger students to fight for his amusement.
Kiyomasa’s role in the story is that of an initial antagonist whose bullying directly caused much of Takemichi’s childhood trauma. In the original timeline, Kiyomasa coerced Takemichi and his friends into acting as his “soldiers” and physically abused them. When Takemichi travels back in time, his first significant act of defiance is to stand up to Kiyomasa, beating him in a fight and breaking the cycle of fear. This moment is crucial for Takemichi’s character development, as it marks the first time he actively tries to change the past. Later in the Moebius arc, Kiyomasa is manipulated by Shuji Hanma into stabbing Draken during a gang conflict, an act that comes from his persistent resentment over being publicly humiliated. His motivations are limited to a desire for power, status, and the satisfaction of dominating others; he has no grand ambitions beyond maintaining his position as a local bully.
Kiyomasa’s key relationships are defined by fear and contempt. He views Mikey and Draken with a mix of resentment and cowardice, and he holds a particular hatred for the Tokyo Manji Gang because of his expulsion. He treats his own subordinates as disposable tools, and he is responsible for tormenting Takemichi in middle school. Kiyomasa undergoes little development; he remains a consistently one-dimensional bully whose importance fades after the Moebius arc. In terms of abilities, Kiyomasa relies on his above-average physical strength and size rather than any refined combat skill. He is not a particularly talented fighter and is easily dominated by experienced brawlers like Draken or Mikey. His only notable capacity is his ability to intimidate weaker individuals and maintain control over a small group through fear. He does not possess any special techniques or unique combat style, and his cowardice prevents him from growing as a fighter or character.
