Description
Dorshe is a formidable and loyal warrior from the Kingdom of Bosse, recognized as one of the kingdoms Big Four, the elite guard of the realm. He holds the distinguished title of the Queens Shield, serving as the personal bodyguard and primary protector of Queen Hiling. In his earlier years, Dorshe held the position of the Kings Spear, acting as a close attendant and warrior to King Bosse himself. He is a man of imposing stature, with a broad, muscular build, a shaved head, thick eyebrows, and a prominent scar located on the left side of his jaw. Due to severe injuries sustained in the line of duty, Dorshe lost his left eye, and his left leg was replaced with a prosthetic. He typically wears an exceptionally thick and heavy suit of armor, which, while protective, can hinder his mobility.
Dorshe possesses a personality that creates a compelling contrast between his fearsome exterior and his gentle inner nature. He is an earnest, serious, and deeply honest individual, known for his profound sense of loyalty and unwavering sense of duty. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is incredibly kind-hearted and emotionally sensitive, to the point where some might consider him too compassionate for the harsh realities of his violent world. He takes his responsibilities with the utmost seriousness and his loyalty is absolute, earning the complete trust of King Bosse. His core philosophy as a protector is that everyone is worth defending, a principle that guides his actions and makes him a true shield for those in his care.
Dorshes journey from serving as the Kings Spear to becoming the Queens Shield is a pivotal part of his background. Initially, his reassignment to protect the newly arrived Queen Hiling was perceived by him as a demotion, leading him to believe he had lost King Bosses trust. However, King Bosse, understanding that Dorshes caring and protective nature made him better suited for this role, gave him a new purpose. The king even tasked Dorshe with observing the young queen to determine if she was truly worth protecting. Although he was initially put off by Hilings brusque and emotional personality, Dorshe quickly recognized her genuine, albeit awkward, kindness and her deep care for those around her, particularly her stepson, Prince Bojji. Witnessing her dedication, Dorshe confirmed to King Bosse that Hiling was indeed worthy of his protection, and he has served as her loyal shield ever since.
His most significant relationship is with Queen Hiling, to whom he is unwaveringly devoted. Their formal relationship matured into a deep, mutual trust and respect, with Hiling relying on him completely and Dorshe finding great pride in his role as her protector. He also holds King Bosse in high regard, remaining grateful for the kings trust and guidance even following his reassignment. As a member of the Big Four, he shares camaraderie and professional respect with fellow warriors Apeas, Bebin, and Domas, though his history includes a role transition with Apeas, who took his former position as the Kings Spear.
Dorshe undergoes significant development as he embraces his role. He transitions from a warrior who felt his value was solely in his strength as the kings spear to a protector who understands that true strength lies in the compassion to defend those who need it. His commitment transforms into a source of pride, and he stands as a symbol of self-sacrifice and loyalty. This conviction is most clearly demonstrated during a deadly plot when he defended Queen Hiling against three powerful underworld beasts sent to assassinate her. In a desperate and ferocious battle, Dorshe single-handedly repelled all three creatures—a feat that Apeas, a fellow Big Four member, could not accomplish against even one. Despite suffering grievous wounds that cost him his left eye and left leg, he never wavered in his duty. His resilience was such that even after being severely injured and losing consciousness, he ultimately survived thanks to Hilings healing magic. In the series Ranking of Kings: The Treasure Chest of Courage, Dorshe is featured in episodes that further explore his relationship with Hiling and his code of honor. In one notable instance, he is present for a tense confrontation where Queen Hiling, desperate and distraught over the loss of her son Daida, nearly harms the prince's possessed body, and Dorshe intervenes to stop her, knocking her unconscious to prevent her from committing a terrible act. In another act of camaraderie, Bojji gifts his treasured fang to Dorshe before departing on a journey, signifying their connection.
In terms of abilities, Dorshe is widely considered the sturdiest and most powerful of the Big Four. His primary fighting style relies on his immense superhuman strength and proficiency in hand-to-hand combat. His signature weapons are a pair of spiked bucklers worn on his forearms, which he uses effectively in close quarters. Despite the weight of his heavy armor, he is a capable fighter, able to throw his shields with surprising accuracy and adapt his tactics to his environment. His most notable technique involves shedding his heavy armor by literally flexing his muscles to burst out of it, which dramatically increases his speed and offensive power, albeit at the cost of some defense. This ability, demonstrated during his fight against the underworld beasts, showcases his incredible physical prowess and his willingness to sacrifice his own safety for the sake of protecting others.
