Kureha Shinogi is a surgeon of exceptional skill, considered one of the world's foremost medical geniuses. His unparalleled expertise in human anatomy and biology allows him to execute complex surgeries in minutes. However, he lacks formal medical licensing because he conducts experimental procedures on patients, viewing them as research subjects to advance medical science, causing resentment among those he operated on. He stands 184 cm tall and weighs 131 kg, possessing a powerful muscular physique. He developed this ideal athletic body through rigorous training, combining a sprinter's speed, a marathon runner's endurance, a wrestler's flexibility, and a heavyweight boxer's striking power. His appearance features long red-orange hair reaching his chest, pale skin, and somewhat feminine facial features. During combat, he typically wears only blue shorts and sports shoes. Initially extremely arrogant, Kureha believed his anatomical knowledge and physical prowess surpassed all martial artists. He killed a tiger barehanded to demonstrate his capabilities and entered the Underground Arena to fight Baki Hanma, aiming to prove medicine's superiority. During their match, he utilized specialized techniques like *Dashin*, inducing paralysis by generating shockwaves within bodily fluids, and delivered precise strikes targeting nerves and organs to inflict internal damage without breaking the skin. After losing decisively to Baki, he required life-saving surgery and a blood transfusion from a former patient. This defeat sparked significant character development. While still narcissistic, Kureha became more humble and showed genuine concern, such as saving Doppo Orochi's life after a fight with Yuujiro Hanma by manually restarting his heart. He participated in the Maximum Tournament, manipulating the bracket to face his younger brother, Kosho Shinogi. During their emotionally charged match, Kosho temporarily blinded him by severing ocular nerves, but Kureha performed in-combat self-surgery to restore his vision. Witnessing Kosho's determination, he voluntarily conceded the match. Later, Kureha attempted to stop Jack Hanma from using performance-enhancing drugs, warning of their fatal consequences. Though initially ignored, he eventually assisted Jack in developing safer methods to enhance his physical abilities, forming a mutual respect. His medical expertise remains frequently utilized to treat injured fighters in subsequent storylines.
