TV-Series
Description
Kazuya Soma is the central protagonist of his story, a young man from modern-day Japan who finds his life irrevocably changed when he is summoned to the fantastical kingdom of Elfrieden. He is a 19-year-old with brownish-black hair and brown eyes, possessing a physical appearance described as typical for a Japanese young man of his age. His ordinary background is key to his character; before the summoning, he was a college student who had lost his parents, grandmother, and finally his grandfather, leaving him to live alone while aspiring to a stable career as a civil servant.

Personality-wise, Kazuya is a realist and a pragmatist, deeply influenced by the writings of strategists like Machiavelli and Sun Tzu. Rather than rely on brute force or traditional heroics, he approaches problems with a cool-headed, analytical mindset focused on tangible, long-term solutions. His primary motivation stems from a conversation with his late grandfather, who advised him to build and protect a family. This makes his family—both his new wives and his adopted sister, Tomoe—his most cherished priority. Despite his often-rational exterior, he is not infallible; he can be a reluctant ruler initially unsure of himself, makes miscalculations, and carries a sense of guilt when his plans are unable to prevent disasters like the landslide in the Forest of Signals.

His role in the story is firmly established when the previous king of Elfrieden, Albert, abdicates the throne and engages him to Princess Liscia, making Kazuya the new sovereign. The king was so impressed by Kazuya’s immediate and practical assessment of the kingdom's dire financial state that he ceded power to him. As king, Kazuya’s mission is not to slay a demon lord but to save a failing nation from internal collapse through administrative and economic reform. His first acts include selling off non-essential royal treasures, addressing a critical food shortage, and cleaning up a corrupt bureaucracy.

To solve these problems, he initiates a nationwide talent search using the kingdom’s Jewel Voice Broadcasts, declaring he will hire anyone regardless of their background if they possess a unique skill. This leads to the formation of his core group of trusted allies. Among them are Liscia Elfrieden, the former princess who becomes his primary partner and emotional anchor; Aisha Udgard, a powerful dark elf warrior who serves as his bodyguard; Hakuya Kwonmin, a scholar with a prodigious memory who becomes his prime minister; Juna Doma, a talented singer and court musician; and Poncho Panacotta, a gluttonous noble whose knowledge of obscure foods helps solve the famine. He also adopts Tomoe Inui, a young refugee of the Mystic Wolf tribe who can speak to animals, as his little sister. These relationships are built on mutual respect and shared purpose, and while he does eventually marry Liscia along with several other consorts, these bonds are portrayed as serving functional and political roles within the kingdom’s governance.

Throughout the narrative, Kazuya undergoes a clear development from a bewildered student into a confident and effective monarch. He gains assurance in his radical policies and learns to lead his people through wars and rebellions, such as the civil strife with the three powerful dukes and the subsequent conflict with the neighboring Principality of Amidonia. He evolves from a man who simply wanted a quiet life to a proactive ruler who annexes enemy territory and forges new alliances, eventually transforming his kingdom into the Gran Friedonia Empire.

One of his most notable abilities is his unique magic, known as the Dark Element "Living Poltergeist," which he acquired upon being summoned. This power allows him to transfer a copy of his consciousness into inanimate objects, enabling him to see, hear, and even move them within a limited range. While this has tactical applications, Kazuya famously uses it for the mundane but vital task of controlling multiple pens simultaneously to complete his overwhelming piles of royal paperwork. Beyond magic, his true strength lies in his extensive practical knowledge from his original world, covering economics, civil engineering, military strategy, and even cooking and sewing. He is also noted for his surprisingly high housekeeping skills, surpassing even those of his talented queens.
