Description
Edytha Rossman is a witch from Karlsland and a member of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing, a role she continues to fill in the comedic setting of World Witches Take Off!. Her background is defined by a serious childhood illness that stunted her growth and left her with limited physical strength, a challenge that initially prevented her from enlisting in the military despite her early magical potential. As the conflict with the Neuroi escalated and physical standards were relaxed, she was finally able to join, beginning her service in the 88th Fighter Squadron during the crisis in Hispania.
Her inability to rely on strength or speed led her to develop a very precise, methodical combat style based on careful observation, identifying an enemy's weak point, and executing a single decisive hit before disengaging. While her confirmed Neuroi kill count is below one hundred, which is relatively low for a Karlslandian ace, her tactical ingenuity and skill are highly respected. She co-pioneered the Rotte system, a two-witch team strategy, alongside Wing Commander Mölders, which became a cornerstone of Karlsland's aerial doctrine.
In the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing, Edytha serves as a veteran combat instructor and is widely known as teacher. Her approach to teaching prioritizes disciplined methodology and reliable technique over innate talent or reflexes, a philosophy that shaped future aces, including the legendary Erica Hartmann, whom she mentored early in her career. This role as an educator extends to her work with newer witches like Hikari Karibuchi, whom she instructs in advanced magical control, such as using a magic shield to walk on water or climb vertical surfaces.
Personality-wise, Edytha is generally cheerful and optimistic off the battlefield, contrasting with her serious and responsible command presence during operations. She has a notable fondness for caviar, which she hoards and becomes irritable if it is wasted or mishandled, but also enjoys junk food. She shares a close, long-standing friendship with Waltrud Krupinski, often acting as the one to keep her friend's more excessive behaviors in check, with the two having a subtly implied rapport. Her equipment includes a Messerschmitt Bf-109 G-2 striker unit and she is familiared with a red fox. Her armament later transitioned from an MG 42 to a Fliegerhammer rocket launcher to better accommodate her magic power decline and her role as a ranged support for her close-combat oriented comrades. Her prominent role as a stern yet patient mentor remains a key aspect of her character in the more lighthearted, logistical, and comedic missions depicted in World Witches Take Off!.
