Description
Mitsuki Iwashimizu, better known as AkibaBlue, is one of the members of the Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger, a self-parody of the long-running Super Sentai franchise. The character is introduced as a serious-minded 18-year-old martial artist with a hidden passion for the in-universe anime series Nijiyome Academy Z-Cune Aoi, a fandom she keeps private. Her initial reason for joining the Akibarangers is practical rather than heroic: she wants to improve her fighting skills. At first, she displays a cynical demeanor and very little interest in the team's activities, largely because she lacks knowledge of Super Sentai tropes and feels uncomfortable with the theatrical behavior expected of a sentai warrior. Her personality is marked by a pragmatic, no-nonsense attitude that sets her apart from the more enthusiastic and obsessive tendencies of her teammates. However, her attitude softens after she spends time watching GoGo Sentai Boukenger and meets action director Kazuo Niibori, which helps her warm up to the role and begin embracing the experience more fully. In terms of role within the story, Mitsuki serves as AkibaBlue, the blue-colored fighter of the team, and her serious, grounded nature often positions her as a contrast to the other members, providing a more level-headed perspective. Her key relationships are primarily with her fellow Akibarangers: Nobuo Akagi, the enthusiastic Super Sentai otaku who leads the team as Akiba Red, and Yumeria Moegi, the cosplayer and fujoshi who serves as Akiba Yellow. The dynamic between the three is defined by their differing personalities and levels of otaku knowledge, with Mitsuki being the least familiar with the franchise and often the most hesitant. Her character development over the course of the first season involves gradually opening up to the idea of being a hero, overcoming her initial discomfort, and learning to work as part of a team. By the end of the first season, she has grown into a more confident fighter with a greater appreciation for the Sentai spirit. In the second season, known as Season Tsuu, Mitsuki's story takes a different turn due to a retcon of the first season's events. In the revised timeline, she is scouted by the Pentagon and leaves for the United States after the final battle with the Stema Otsu Corporation, leading to her departure from the team. She is replaced in the second season by Luna Iwashimizu, a new AkibaBlue who is an aspiring idol with extensive production knowledge of tokusatsu. Notably, the kanji for Luna's first name is written the same as Mitsuki's, and her last name contains the kanji for blue, which serves as the in-story reason for her recruitment. As AkibaBlue, Mitsuki's notable abilities include the use of Delusion Power, a shared imaginative energy that allows the Akibarangers to transform and fight, particularly in the Delusion World. While transformed, she wields the MMZ-01 Moe Moe Z-Cune, a multi-purpose figurine-like device that functions as a transformation item and a handgun. This weapon allows her to perform attacks such as the Normal Attack (Temporary) and the Moe Magnum finisher, both of which rely on the power of otaku passion and imagination rather than conventional physical prowess. Her martial arts training also informs her fighting style, giving her a more grounded and physical approach compared to the more fantastical elements of the team's powers. Overall, Mitsuki Iwashimizu as AkibaBlue represents the reluctant but capable team member who grows into her role, balancing her serious personality with the absurd and delusional world of the Akibarangers.
