Description
Elena Shimabara is a 17-year-old idol affiliated with 765 Production. A vibrant and energetic girl, she grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, until the age of six before moving to Japan. Her father is Japanese, and her mother is Brazilian, and she holds dual citizenship. This background makes her a returnee child, and while she has a great love for Brazilian culture, including carnival, samba, and football, her command of the Japanese language is somewhat fragmented, often using katakana for words that would normally be written in hiragana or kanji.
Personality-wise, Elena is the embodiment of sunshine and goodwill. She is described as very energetic, friendly, and kindhearted, primarily motivated by a desire to see her friends smile. Her personality is very direct and she is not very good with formal Japanese etiquette, often acting in an open and unreserved manner that can surprise those around her. Despite her constant high energy, there is a vulnerability beneath the surface; she originally had difficulty making friends after returning to Japan and did not know the language, which is part of why she tries so hard to create a cheerful atmosphere. This energetic front hides some unexpected traits, including a notable fear of ghosts and horror movies, which cause her to scream loudly because she gets too scared if she doesn't. She also shows a shy side when asked to perform cute appeals.
In the story, Elena plays the role of a bright and dependable dance specialist. As one of the idols at the 765 Production Theater, she is often seen practicing alongside others and using her skills to support her peers. Her key relationships are central to her character. She is exceptionally close to Kotoha Tanaka and Megumi Tokoro, fellow high school students of a similar age. This trio is so well-associated that they are recognized by the fan-given unit name Tristar Vision, which later became official in game materials, and they frequently appear in stories and events together. Another significant relationship forms with Miya Miya, with whom she forms the duo unit Cleasky, exploring a different dynamic than her usual trio. At home, she lives with her parents, her grandmother, and her younger brother named Joao.
Elena undergoes development that ties deeply into her identity as a Nikkei Brazilian. Her personal story often touches on themes of duality and belonging, navigating the space between her Brazilian heritage and Japanese present. While she cannot speak Portuguese fluently, her image songs, such as Omoi wa Carnaval, incorporate Portuguese lyrics to reflect her roots. Her confidence grows through her friendships and her work as an idol, moving from a child who struggled to fit in to a vibrant personality who brings energy to the entire theater.
Her notable abilities are heavily influenced by her Brazilian upbringing. She is a skilled dancer, with samba being her specialty, and she loves football, once suggesting a futsal (indoor football) tournament at the theater. She is generally depicted as being highly capable and confident in dance and physical activities, distinguishing her from idols who may focus more on singing. Her image color is a light shade of green, complementing her bright and natural aura.
