Description
Kensuke Yaegashi is a male idol signed to the talent agency Tsukino Talent Production, where he performs as a member of the four-man unit called Growth. He is a young man of average height with dark blue hair and teal-green eyes. His birthday is on September the thirtieth, and his blood type is O.
Kensuke has a frank, refreshing, and handsome personality. He is very outgoing and friendly, known for his ability to judge people based on his own interactions rather than being swayed by rumours or preconceived notions. This open-minded and fair approach to others has allowed him to build a large circle of friends and even get along with people who might seem difficult to approach at first, such as his fellow Growth member Koki Eto. He is more outspoken than some of his friends but also possesses a strong ability to read the atmosphere of a room, offering advice and comments that fit the situation well. Kensuke generally avoids open conflict and can serve as a pacifying influence during arguments among his group members, though he is not above being a little petty about rival units.
In his approach to life, Kensuke is defined by a philosophy of enjoyment, believing that a life only happens once and that it is an absolute loss not to have fun with it. He believes that smiling, even if it is forced cheerfulness, is better than dwelling on worries, as it can help energise a person. True to this mindset, he likes challenging himself with new things, even if the initial results are not favourable. He has little concern for maintaining a specific public image and is unwilling to change his behaviour just to meet others' expectations, although he admits he would like his fans to see him as cool. A self-described late-bloomer, he is the type who prefers to play and spend time with his male friends rather than with girls, a trait that is considered part of his charm.
Kensuke's journey to becoming an idol began because of his sister, who loves idols and secretly sent his application to an audition after seeing a talent scout show interest in him. He was previously a member of another agency called Sun Promotion Entertainment, where he worked hard at individual jobs alongside his future Growth bandmates, Koki Eto and Ryota Sakuraba, while hoping for a formal debut. During this time, he was often paired with Ryota for work due to his ability to get along with anyone. After their former agency decided to debut a different unit, Koki decided to leave, and Kensuke followed him. They soon auditioned for Tsukino Talent Production, where they formed a unit with the composer Mamoru Fujimura, who was later joined by Ryota as a singer, thus creating Growth.
Within the story of the anime, Kensuke and the other members of Growth, alongside the units SOARA, SolidS, and QUELL, work towards the shared goal of holding a wonderful performance at the Budokan to showcase their music. Kensuke aims to achieve greater heights in his career and continues to pursue new challenges, such as appearing in hero shows or tokusatsu programmes.
Kensuke's key relationships are primarily with his bandmates in Growth. He has a very close bond with Ryota Sakuraba, having known him since they were eleven years old. The two consider each other best friends. Kensuke can often tell what Ryota is thinking and is the person Ryota turns to when he is scared or needs a voice of reason. He is also the first to have discovered Ryota's fear of bugs, often becoming the target of his resulting lectures about cleanliness. He is similarly protective of Koki Eto, though he does not interact with him as much as he does with Ryota. He respects Koki greatly and admires his talents. His relationship with Mamoru Fujimura is described as being like that of siblings. They make light-hearted fun of each other, with Kensuke often teasing Mamoru for being an old man, but are always supportive when the other needs help. Kensuke deeply respects and loves Mamoru's music. He also shares a unique bond with the group's manager, Minato Mochiduki, as the two were friends in an online role-playing game long before they met in person, without knowing each other's real identities.
Outside of his own unit, Kensuke and his group consider SOARA as friendly rivals, and he has a particular friendship with the drummer Soshi Kagurazaka, with whom he has hosted a live broadcast. He also has a mixed relationship with members of the unit ZIX; while he expresses open dislike for one member, Mitsuru Hishida, and a quieter dislike for another, Makoto Sugai, these feelings have softened over time, and they have since come to consider each other friendly rivals.
Several notable abilities and personal traits define Kensuke. He is good at dancing and often acts as the energetic one in Growth. He possesses high social intelligence and communication skills, which make him a balancing presence within his unit, helping to maintain harmony in both music and daily life. He is skilled at video games and is particularly adept at the online RPG Moon Forest Fantasy. He can do a backflip, though he has not had the opportunity to incorporate it into a performance. He is a good driver but can only drive automatic cars. His likes include music, dance, spending time with friends, mountains, oranges, hamburgers, and mathematics. He dislikes lies, flattery, literature, stiff or formal places, green peas, and parsley. He is not good at playing musical instruments, especially the piano, despite having practiced it for a long time in the past. He also cannot handle the cold very well.
