Description
Lon Beruk is a Darkling, a demon from the Underworld, who lived for 275 years as a legendary master craftsman and one of the greatest swordsmen in the demon realm. He was the former weaponsmith of the Dark King Vearn, forging iconic weapons such as the Dark Armour Blade used by Hyunckel, the Dark Armour Spear used by Larhart, and the Staff of Edacity wielded by Vearn himself. Dissatisfied with creating weapons for those he felt did not truly deserve them, Lon Beruk left the Underworld decades ago, moving to the surface world where he settled near the village of Lankirks. There he ran a small shop, often seen drinking, and became friends with Jank, the father of the magician Popp and a fellow blacksmith. Over time, he grew disillusioned, believing there were no warriors worthy of his finest creations.
At his core, Lon Beruk is driven by a single passion: to forge a weapon that can rival the legendary Demon Dragon Blade, a god-forged weapon. He is only interested in seeing his weapons perform in battle, and his initial encounter with the hero Dai and his companions is marked by cold indifference. However, after learning that Dai shattered the Demon Dragon Blade using a sword of his own making, Lon Beruk experiences a dramatic change of heart. He becomes intensely excited and agrees to forge the world's greatest sword for Dai, using orichalcum obtained from the Crown of Champions. The result is the Sword of Dai, a living weapon with a spirit that chooses when to be drawn, capable of withstanding the immense power of the Dragon Knight.
Beyond his role as a weaponsmith, Lon Beruk is a formidable swordsman. He once dueled Mystvearn, receiving the large X-shaped scar across his face as a punishment for defying Vearn, and later proved able to cancel Mystvearn's Dark Aura Decimation Field with his own blade. He later participates directly in battle, notably confronting Zaboera's super zombie and defeating it with his ultimate technique, the Star Emperor Cross Slash, even at the cost of temporarily losing the use of his arms. He also provides crucial support by repairing and upgrading the heroes' weapons, such as Hyunckel's spear, and by creating additional equipment like Popp's magic-converting staff, Maam's transforming gauntlets, and Nova's star sword. In the later stages of the story, he takes on the role of a trainer, sparring with Dai and Hyunckel to sharpen their skills. His relationship with the young smith Nova develops into a mentor-apprentice bond, as Nova requests to become his student after witnessing Lon Beruk's sacrifice and mastery.
Lon Beruk's personality evolves from a bitter, alcohol-dependent recluse into a dedicated and self-sacrificing ally. He values wielders who are truly worthy of their weapons, and his pride as a craftsman is matched by his integrity as a warrior.
