TV-Series
Description
Keiko Ayano, known in virtual worlds as Silica, is a young woman who became trapped in the death game Sword Art Online at the age of twelve, making her one of the youngest players among the ten thousand imprisoned. Despite her inexperience, she distinguished herself as the first player to successfully tame a Feathered Little Dragon, a rare creature she named Pina after her pet cat in the real world. This achievement granted her the uncommon Beast Tamer profession and considerable popularity among players on the middle floors of Aincrad. Her chosen player name, Silica, is derived from the element silicon, which itself is the basis for her real given name, Keiko; she opted for the softer sounding Silica rather than the masculine alternative.

Silica possesses a kind, bright, and cheerful disposition, and is known to be exceptionally supportive of her friends. Her bond with her familiar, Pina, is profound; she was devastated when the dragon sacrificed itself to protect her and overjoyed upon discovering a method for its resurrection. While she is generally resilient, she is prone to becoming flustered and easily embarrassed, particularly in romantic or awkward situations, such as physical contact with those she admires or being teased by her companions. A period of overconfidence stemming from her early fame once led her to venture alone into a dangerous area, resulting in her losing her way and Pina being killed, an experience that taught her a significant lesson about humility and the consequences of her actions.

Her primary motivation throughout the series is to protect and support her cherished circle of friends, who have become like a second family to her. This loyalty is a core part of her identity as a member of Kirito's group. She views Kirito as an older brother figure, a dynamic that began when he saved her life and helped her revive Pina in the original Sword Art Online. She shares a particularly close and playful friendship with Lisbeth, another survivor and skilled blacksmith, and the two often act as a pair when supporting their comrades.

In Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld Part 2, Silica plays a crucial supporting role. Upon learning that Kirito and Asuna are in grave danger within the virtual world of Underworld, she partners with Lisbeth to take immediate action. Demonstrating her growth into a decisive and courageous individual, she helps rally roughly three thousand players from Alfheim Online and leads them to log their avatars into the Underworld to reinforce the beleaguered Human Empire Army, fully aware that this action risks the permanent deletion of their ALO characters and hard-earned items. She enters the conflict directly, fighting on the front lines of the massive war alongside her allies. While initially overwhelmed by the scale of the battle, she contributes to the larger strategic effort to protect Kirito and Asuna while Kirito remains in a comatose state.

Throughout the series, Silica undergoes noticeable character development. She evolves from a somewhat timid and anxious young girl, who was often treated as a party mascot, into a more confident and resilient fighter capable of rallying thousands to a dangerous cause. Her abilities center on her rare Beast Tamer skills. Her primary weapon is a dagger, which she uses for quick, agile strikes in close combat. However, her greatest asset in battle is her trusted familiar, Pina. The dragon provides invaluable support functions, including a healing breath that can restore her health, a search skill for detecting monsters, and a bubble breath attack that has a confusion effect on enemies. In later adventures, she expands her taming skills to include other creatures, further solidifying her role as a versatile supporter in a party often filled with powerful direct attackers.
