Description
Iori Hida, who also goes by the English name Cody, is one of the original protagonists from Digimon Adventure 02 who appears as a supporting character in Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. By the time of the film, which takes place in 2010, Iori is seventeen years old and in his second year of high school. He has grown from the youngest and most serious member of the second generation of Chosen Children into a focused young adult with a clear vision for his future. Iori is already confident in his chosen career path as a lawyer and has begun studying diligently to achieve this goal, a decision that reflects his lifelong commitment to justice and order. In addition to his academic pursuits, he remains an active member of his school's kendo team, a discipline he has practiced since childhood under the tutelage of his grandfather, Chikara Hida, a kendo master.

Iori's personality continues to be defined by a strong sense of integrity, politeness, and a thoughtful, philosophical nature that has always made him seem wise beyond his years. He is reserved and speaks formally, often acting as a grounding presence among his more energetic peers. The deep-seated values of honesty and justice that he held as a child have matured into a more nuanced understanding of the world. Raised in a traditional household by his mother and grandfather following the death of his father, Hiroki, a police officer killed in the line of duty, Iori has always grappled with a rigid, black-and-white view of morality. Over time, and especially through his adventures in the Digital World and his complicated relationship with a reformed Ken Ichijouji, he has learned to reconcile his ideals with the complexities of real-world situations and the potential for redemption.

In Last Evolution Kizuna, Iori's role, while not central, is that of a capable and reliable member of the older Chosen Children group. Alongside his longtime friends Daisuke Motomiya, Ken Ichijouji, and Miyako Inoue, he is called upon to assist the original DigiDestined, Tai Kamiya and Matt Ishida, in their investigation of a strange phenomenon involving Digimon and their human partners. Early in the film, Iori is shown eating ramen with Daisuke and Ken in New York City. When Yamato Ishida contacts them for help, Iori, demonstrating his strategic and analytical mind, suggests that they break into the office of a professor named Menoa Bellucci at Liberica University to search for clues on her computer. This action shows his willingness to take decisive, if ethically ambiguous, steps for the greater good, a significant development from the younger boy who once could not forgive himself for telling a necessary lie to save his friends. His investigation ultimately helps the team uncover crucial information about the film's antagonist.

Iori's key relationships have remained strong into his late teens. His partnership with his Digimon, Armadimon, endures as a central pillar of his life. Armadimon's cheerful, laid-back, and sometimes humorous demeanor continues to balance Iori's own solemn and serious nature, and their mutual respect allows them to work seamlessly together in battle. His relationship with Ken Ichijouji has fully matured into one of trust and friendship, a stark contrast to his initial refusal to accept the former Digimon Kaiser into the group. This evolution in his character, from holding a grudge to embracing the concept of atonement, is a testament to his personal growth. He also remains close with the other members of his generation, particularly Miyako, with whom he shares a long history as neighbors and friends, and Takeru Takaishi, whose past struggles with anger and justice helped Iori learn to better understand the motivations of others.

The character development Iori experiences by the time of Last Evolution Kizuna is the culmination of his journey from a rigid, rule-following child to a principled young man capable of moral flexibility. His earlier struggles to forgive Ken and his distress over having to destroy an enemy Digimon to protect innocents have shaped his worldview. Faced with the new crisis of the Eosmon attacks and the tragic truth about the bond between Chosen Children and their partners, Iori does not waver. He applies the lessons of his past, including the redemptive sacrifices of figures like Yukio Oikawa, to the present threat. His determination to become a lawyer is a direct reflection of his desire to uphold justice and protect others in a professional capacity, showing that he has found a way to honor his father's legacy not by following the same path as a police officer, but through a career focused on fairness and rehabilitation. In combat, Iori and Armadimon are capable fighters, having mastered their armor evolutions into Digmon and Submarimon using the Digimentals of Knowledge and Sincerity, as well as the jogress evolution into Shakkoumon with Takeru's Angemon. In the film, he is seen actively engaging the swarms of Eosmon to protect the populace, demonstrating that his years of training and experience have made him a formidable and dependable protector.
