Description
Prince Demokin is the prince of Demon Land, the realm of the demon tribe that has long been the rival of Monster Land and its monster inhabitants. He is the son of the Great Demon King Demon, and he appears in the anime Kaibutsu-kun: Demon no Ken when Kaibutsu-kun and his companions arrive in demon territory to undo the curse placed on the Great Monster King. Out of simple curiosity, he invites the visitors to the temple where the Demon Sword is kept, which brings him directly into the path of the story's heroes.
Demokin has a rambunctious and easygoing nature. He follows his own whims and moves at his own pace rather than according to the ambitions of his father's court. In contrast to the Great Demon King, who schemes against the monster tribe, Demokin does not regard Kaibutsu-kun and his companions as enemies, and he even shows a rebellious streak toward his father. His playful and curious temperament puts him in opposition to Kaibutsu-kun at first, but he is not driven by genuine malice. He responds to sincerity and is gradually moved by the strength of Kaibutsu-kun's feelings for his own father.
His relationship with his father is central to his character. The Great Demon King spends little time with him and does not notice the prince's loneliness, and that emotional distance helps explain Demokin's defiance and restless behavior.
