Description
Akane Aoi is a student at Kamome Academy who serves as the living representative of the school's first supernatural mystery, the Clock Keepers. Unlike the other Seven Mysteries, this entity is composed of three beings: Kako, who governs the past; Mirai, who controls the future; and Akane himself, who represents the present. Akane was tricked into signing a contract with the Clock Keepers, binding him to them for a period of six years in exchange for supernatural abilities.

In his daily life, Akane is the vice president of the student council, a position he holds alongside the president, Teru Minamoto. His personality is marked by an intense, unwavering devotion to his childhood friend, Aoi Akane, whom he affectionately calls Ao-chan. He has loved her since they were young and persistently proposes marriage to her, a routine to which Aoi responds by giving his performance a score. His affection for Aoi is the central motivation for most of his actions; his primary goal is to protect her from any harm, a drive that stems from a childhood incident where he saved her from being hit by a car. This event was the catalyst for him forming his contract with the Clock Keepers, becoming a supernatural being specifically so he would have the power to ensure her safety. His dedication is all-consuming, leading him to stalk her to ward off unwanted suitors and to prioritize her well-being above all else.

As a contractor for the Clock Keepers, Akane's notable ability is the power to stop time for limited periods each day. He is also deeply integrated into the supernatural hierarchy of the school, forming temporary alliances with other characters like Hanako when their goals align. His key relationships include his complex dynamic with Teru Minamoto, who, as an exorcist, is a natural enemy to supernaturals like Akane; despite this, they work closely together in the student council and hold a grudging respect for one another. However, his relationship with Aoi is the most significant and complex. While she frequently rejects his advances, the narrative reveals that she does harbor reciprocal feelings for him, and his obsessive love is portrayed not as a simple joke but as a profound, if flawed, connection that defines both of their characters. His development throughout the story involves the deepening of this relationship, moving from a one-sided, almost comical pursuit to a more mutual and emotionally vulnerable understanding between him and Aoi.
