Description
Nao Okamura is a former child actor who began his career as a star on a children's singalong program. Despite his popularity and the label of genius child actor, he struggles with severe stage fright. He initially feels relieved that he is finally becoming too old for the show and can pass the role to a younger cast member once his contract ends. However, his situation changes when his mother is approached by a talent scout from 315 Production, leading him to join the agency as an idol.
Nao has an introverted, obedient, and docile personality. He is often anxious and lacks confidence in himself, describing himself as a pushover. He tends to be reserved and nervous in social situations, especially when faced with performance opportunities. His motivation for becoming an idol comes largely from his mother's encouragement and the support of others, rather than his own ambition. He has trouble asserting himself and often doubts his own abilities.
Within the story of The Idolm@ster SideM Wake Atte Mini!, Nao is a member of the idol unit Mofumofuen alongside Shiro Tachibana and Kanon Himeno. His role in the group is that of the timid yet earnest member who gradually learns to overcome his fears. He looks up to his unit mates, admiring Shiro's dedication to dance and Kanon's kindness and fashion sense. His relationship with his producer is also significant; he views the producer as a warm and reassuring presence, almost like family, who helps him find courage.
Throughout his journey, Nao shows development from a nervous child star who wants to escape the spotlight into a more confident idol who begins to enjoy performing. He starts to take initiative, such as making nutritional drinks for his teammates and practicing dance on his own. His growth is marked by small steps, such as being able to lead his unit and feeling excitement rather than just fear before shows.
Nao's notable abilities stem from his experience as a child actor, which gives him a foundation in performing and singing. He is also diligent about his training and is willing to study new skills, including dance and acting. He is kind-hearted and attentive to others, often preparing refreshments or offering support to his colleagues. His gentle and earnest nature endears him to those around him, even as he continues to work on his self-assurance.
