Description
Floy Gillichanan is a character from the anime Inazuma Eleven: Orion no Kokuin. He is the fourteen-year-old captain of the Russian national team, Perfect Spark, and primarily plays as a forward or midfielder. Born into the immensely wealthy and influential Gillichanan family, his father is Valentin Gillichanan, the original founder of the Orion Foundation, and his older brother is Bernardo Gillichanan, who serves as the current chairman.
On the surface, Floy is known for his kind, smiling, and polite demeanor, often acting as a gracious host to opposing teams arriving in Russia. He is a reflective and observant individual who believes in gathering data on his opponents to improve his chances of winning, yet he maintains a strong sense of fairness and honesty. Unlike many players affiliated with the foundation, he makes it clear that his team has no followers of Orion’s corrupt methods and he does not support the organization's unethical practices, though he does not hold a grudge against the foundation itself because he knows it was originally created for a more humane purpose [/citation].
Floy’s deep connection to football is rooted in a difficult childhood. He was born with a weak and sickly body, which kept him isolated and aware that death could come at any time. His father gave him a soccer ball to give him hope for the future, explaining that playing football could provide dreams for suffering children around the world. This gift motivated Floy to fight against his illness through the sport. A pivotal figure in his life is his childhood friend, Hikaru Kageyama (formerly known as Mitsuru Ichihoshi). The two played together in a Russian football club when they were young, and it was through his serious and solitary friend that Floy learned to take the sport more seriously, leading to a friendship that remains strong even after discovering Hikaru's complex past as a rebel against Orion.
A significant part of Floy’s character arc involves his complicated family relationships. He once greatly admired his older brother, Bernardo, who taught him football and was a source of comfort. However, after the death of their father, Bernardo became cold and distant, causing Floy great pain. During the match against Inazuma Japan, Floy is horrified when his brother orders the rest of the Russian team to use dirty tactics to win. Feeling utterly betrayed, Floy leaves the field in protest, a rebellious act he had never dared to do before. His investigation later leads him to suspect that his mother, Irina, is the true manipulative force behind Orion, controlling Bernardo from the shadows. In the final match, Irina even uses hypnosis to control Floy and force him to play aggressively before he is freed from her influence.
In terms of abilities, Floy is recognized as a tremendously skilled player, noted even by figures like Nosaka Yuuma as someone to be especially wary of. His signature shooting hissatsu technique is called Innocent Drive, a powerful move he uses to score goals. Despite his family's power and his own capabilities, his defining trait is his commitment to fair play and his desire to save the Orion Foundation from its dark descent, acting as a moral counterweight to the corruption surrounding him.
