Description
Masamune Takano is a main character in the anime series Sekaiichi Hatsukoi and appears in the Valentine-hen OVA as a supporting figure. Formerly known as Saga Masamune, he adopted the surname Takano after his parents divorced during his high school years. His birthday is December 24. He serves as the editor-in-chief of the Emerald department at Marukawa Publishing, where his sharp editorial skills and professional competence have earned him the nickname the Capable. Takano is a tall man with short, slick black hair and brown eyes.

His personality is marked by fierce determination and a composed, assertive demeanor in the workplace. He is often seen as confident and commanding, but beneath that exterior lies a deeper vulnerability, particularly when it comes to his personal relationships. A history of unresolved emotional pain shapes much of his behavior. In high school, he and Ritsu Onodera shared a brief romantic relationship that ended due to a mutual misunderstanding. The breakup, combined with family problems and other personal struggles, led to a breakdown in his college years and left him with a long-lasting, unrequited love for Ritsu. His primary motivation throughout the series is to rekindle that love. Upon reuniting with Ritsu at Marukawa, he makes a determined promise to make Ritsu fall for him again, a goal he pursues with persistence and occasional jealousy.

In the Valentine-hen OVA, Takano’s role centers on the ongoing development of his relationship with Ritsu, exploring the emotional tension and progress between them. Key relationships include his complex history and present dynamic with Ritsu Onodera, his competitive yet collegial interactions with fellow editor Chiaki Yoshino, and a friendship with colleague Haru Yoshida that provides moments of levity. He also had a brief romantic involvement with Takafumi Yokozawa, which was resolved before the events of the main story.

Takano’s notable abilities lie in his editorial expertise. He possesses a strong grasp of storytelling, narrative structure, and emotional intelligence, allowing him to effectively guide authors and resolve conflicts in the publishing environment. His keen eye for talent helps him cultivate writers’ work. Over the course of the series, his character development involves learning to balance his intense personal feelings with his professional responsibilities, gradually confronting his past mistakes and emotional barriers.
