Description
Maron Cricket, also known as Montblanc Cricket, is a resident of Jaya Island who lives in a modest home concealed behind a castle-like facade. He is the distant descendant of Montblanc Noland, the explorer historically branded as Noland the Liar for claiming to have discovered a golden city that could not later be found. Cricket carries the weight of this family legacy and has dedicated his life to proving that his ancestor was truthful.

Cricket's personality is defined by unwavering conviction and stubborn determination. He speaks his mind without fear and refuses to let anyone mock his beliefs. Despite being dismissed and ridiculed by much of the world, he maintains an unshakable faith in the existence of both the golden city of Shandora and the sky island of Skypiea. He is fiercely independent and possesses a deep sense of personal honor tied to his ancestor's reputation.

His primary motivation is to vindicate Montblanc Noland's name and restore the family's honor. He believes that proving the existence of Shandora and Skypiea will clear the centuries-old stain on his lineage. This goal drives him to endure years of grueling deep-sea diving expeditions off the coast of Jaya, searching for evidence that Noland's account was true.

In the story of the Skypiea arc, Cricket serves as a crucial ally to the Straw Hat Pirates. After they arrive on Jaya seeking a way to reach the sky, he shares his extensive research and introduces them to the concept of the Knock Up Stream, a powerful vertical ocean current that can propel a ship into the sky. He leads the Saruyama Alliance, a group of ape-themed pirates that includes his friends Masira and Shoujou, in helping the Straw Hats prepare for their ascent. He directs them to capture a South Bird to navigate to the correct location for the stream and oversees modifications to the Going Merry to withstand the journey. After the Straw Hats leave, he is attacked and robbed by Bellamy and his crew, but Luffy later retrieves the stolen treasure and defends Cricket's honor.

Key relationships include his alliance with Masira and Shoujou, who assist him in his diving operations and his broader quest. His bond with the Straw Hat Pirates, particularly with Luffy, is significant because they share his belief in reaching the sky and ultimately help him achieve the vindication he has sought for his entire life. His relationship with his ancestor Noland, though spanning centuries, is the emotional core of his character; he lives in Noland's shadow but fights to redeem his memory.

Cricket experiences notable development over the course of the arc. He begins as a man fighting a lonely battle against public skepticism and personal doubt. His encounter with the Straw Hats reignites his hope, and their success in reaching Skypiea and ringing the golden bell provides the proof he has always needed. In the climactic moment, Cricket hears the bell's toll from the sky and understands that his ancestor was telling the truth, bringing him to tears and finally lifting the burden of shame his family carried for four hundred years.

Cricket's most notable abilities are related to deep-sea diving and survival. He has developed exceptional lung capacity and physical endurance through years of underwater exploration, allowing him to dive to great depths and navigate dangerous ocean environments. He is also a skilled researcher and analyst, having assembled clues from historical records and his own findings to theorize the existence of the Knock Up Stream. While he is not portrayed as a major combatant, he is physically robust and capable of holding his own in non-combat scenarios. His true strength lies in his resilience and his ability to inspire belief in the impossible.
