Description
Kyūtarō Kugi is a supporting character in the anime Buddy Daddies. He is a thirty-two-year-old man who runs a café called Yadorigi, which serves as a front for his true profession as a middleman who arranges assassination jobs for hitmen. In his capacity as a job broker, he supplies Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa with their contracts, providing them with mission details, intelligence, and occasional support. Externally, Kugi presents himself as a warm and friendly café owner, always calm and approachable. Beneath this affable exterior, however, he possesses keen insight and an extensive knowledge of the criminal underworld. He is well aware of Kazuki and Rei’s personal histories, including their past traumas, but he deliberately maintains a strictly professional relationship with them, choosing not to intervene in their personal lives. His demeanor can shift quickly: while he often acts like a supportive older brother, he is also pragmatic and can be ruthless when jobs go poorly. He has no hesitation in cutting ties with those who fail him, reflecting a dry, business‑first attitude. Kugi’s motivations are primarily transactional; he values efficiency and discretion above personal bonds, though he occasionally demonstrates a relaxed tolerance toward the pair’s unusual domestic situation after they take in the young girl Miri. He interacts with other underworld figures, such as the assassin Ryo Ogino, and is aware of the broader criminal network that surrounds Kazuki and Rei. Over the course of the story, Kugi remains a steady, though not deeply involved, presence. He does not undergo significant personal change but serves as a reliable source of jobs and intelligence, always maintaining a careful distance. His notable abilities include sharp observational skills, a talent for gathering and processing information, and the capacity to navigate the delicate balance between the criminal underworld and his public‑facing role.
