Description
Baron Abel is the central protagonist of the Slap Up Party, a young man whose life was irrevocably altered by the catastrophic event known as the cursed light of Kazan. As a child, this curse infected his left arm, causing it to become demonically possessed and transform into what is known as a Ghost Arm. This affliction granted him supernatural strength but also carried the constant risk of complete corruption and losing control to the demonic entity within. Ostracized and driven from his home village by frightened residents who viewed him as a monster, Baron reached a point of utter despair and was on the verge of taking his own life.
His fate took a decisive turn when he discovered a large greatsword inhabited by the spirit of Roxy, a dark elf warrior who had perished in a previous battle against a great evil. Roxy became both his mentor and his emotional anchor, teaching him to wield the massive blade and using her power to help suppress the demonic curse that plagued him. Only Baron can see and hear Roxy, who resides within the sword, and their unique bond forms the foundation of his journey. From that point forward, Baron began traveling across the continent of Arad, searching for a way to cure his curse while also seeking food and shelter.
In terms of personality, Baron presents an interesting mix of traits. On the surface, he can appear grumpy or solitary, but this exterior masks a fundamentally kind and helpful nature. Despite being widely discriminated against as a Ghost Knight, he rarely dwells on his misfortune and instead focuses on taking action. He is notably optimistic, resilient, and possesses a strong moral code that drives him to help those in need, even complete strangers. However, his passion and impulsiveness often lead him to rush headlong into dangerous situations without fully considering the consequences. He has a particular aversion to cruelty, especially when it involves harming innocents for research or personal gain, which puts him into direct conflict with antagonists like Irbek.
As the leader of the Slap Up Party, Baron serves as the unifying force that binds together a diverse group of adventurers. This party includes Capensis, a flamboyant gunner; Ryunmei, a skilled fighter; Ixia, an elven mage; and sometimes the priest Jedah. While he is the de facto leader and an important figure for the other members, his role evolves over time from a solitary wanderer to someone who learns to rely on his companions and accept responsibility for their safety. His signature battle cry, Party Call, embodies this role as the rallying force of the team.
Baron's character undergoes significant development throughout the series. Initially driven primarily by the selfish goal of curing his own curse, he gradually learns the value of friendship and sacrifice. The most profound example of this growth comes near the end of the story, when he is presented with a chance to finally remove his curse. Instead of using this opportunity for himself, he chooses to give the cure to a young girl named Stella, who suffers from the same affliction. This selfless act demonstrates how far he has come from the despairing boy who was driven from his village. Following this sacrifice, he continues traveling with his party, embracing a life of adventure and protection for others while still seeking an alternative cure for himself.
Regarding his abilities, Baron is a Ghost Knight, a class of warrior cursed with a demonic arm. His combat style revolves around wielding a massive greatsword with tremendous skill. While he is proficient in standard swordsmanship, his true power manifests when he partially releases the demonic curse, entering a state known as Ghost Transformation. In this form, his combat effectiveness reaches its peak, allowing him to easily defeat formidable opponents. His fighting style incorporates techniques associated with multiple Ghost Knight subclasses, demonstrating versatility that includes powerful slashing attacks, wave-generating skills, and the raw, aggressive style characteristic of a berserker. The spirit of Roxy within his sword not only helps suppress his curse but also guides him in battle, making their partnership essential to his effectiveness as a warrior.
