Description
Akira To'oka is a Shikabane Hime, a reanimated corpse bound to serve the Kōgon Sect by hunting rogue Shikabane, other undead beings. She was killed by a Shikabane, a common origin for those who become Shikabane Hime, though very little is revealed about her past before death. Her contracted priest is Sadahiro Mibu, an exiled monk known as the Auditor, and together they operate from a base at the Cafe Parthenon, where she works alongside Sadahiro and their ally Ouri Kagami. Akira is a composed and direct individual, often displaying a cynical demeanor, and she frequently physically strikes Sadahiro to prevent him from revealing classified secrets or making inappropriate comments. Her combat role is highly specialized: she is the only Shikabane Hime authorized by the Kōgon Sect to kill living human beings. Her duties include eliminating rogue Shikabane, but her primary responsibility is terminating other Shikabane Hime who have lost their contracted monks and risk turning feral. In combat, Akira uses a sniper rifle, and her effectiveness is enhanced by Sadahiro, who uses his Zadan technique to imbue her shots with spiritual energy. Her existence is bound to Sadahiro through a mystical catalyst, though her willpower can sustain the bond even if the catalyst is destroyed. The Kōgon Sect's doctrine promises that a Shikabane Hime who kills 108 rogue Shikabane will gain entry to heaven, but this promise is later revealed to be false. Instead, those who complete the task transform into an indestructible destroyer entity, and the sect secretly confines them within coffins while telling their monks they have achieved salvation. Akira's ultimate fate after potentially fulfilling her quota is not disclosed.
