OVA
Description
The Anna Kyōyama who appears in Butsu Zone is an alternate version of the character created by Hiroyuki Takei, distinct from her more famous counterpart in Shaman King. In this earlier work, she is presented as an itako, a traditional Japanese spirit medium, and serves as an ally to the main characters.

Regarding her background, Anna was abandoned as a young child by her birth parents, who became terrified of her innate and powerful shamanic abilities. She was subsequently taken in and raised by an elderly woman named Kino, who trained her in the arts of itako. This sets the stage for her primary motivation: she works and saves money with the goal of one day traveling to find her birth family and learn the reason why they abandoned her.

In terms of personality, this version of Anna is notably different from the harsh and aggressive character seen in Shaman King. Here, she is portrayed as more cheerful, enthusiastic, and extroverted. She is also described as being decisive and full of energy, reflecting a more optimistic outlook on her circumstances. Her role in the story of Butsu Zone is that of a supporting character who aids the protagonists using her unique spiritual powers.

For her notable abilities, Anna wields the sword Harusame, a weapon which would later reappear in Shaman King as the primary medium for the spirit Amidamaru. As an itako, she is also capable of summoning and communicating with spirits, though her cheerful demeanor in Butsu Zone is a marked contrast to the stoic and fearsome itako persona she is often associated with in other works. Her appearance is also distinct, featuring a black blouse, jean shorts, red sneakers, a blue pearl bracelet, a white rosary, and a red scarf with white triangles, with her hair tied up in a ponytail.
