Description
Doctor Ray serves as the main antagonist in Doraemon: Nobita's Sky Utopia, a scientist originating from the 22nd century whose expertise lies in the field of mind manipulation. His background is that of a researcher who dedicated himself to understanding and controlling human consciousness, though he eventually vanished and was presumed missing before the events of the film.

In terms of personality, Doctor Ray is characterized by a selfish and ruthless nature, driven by a desire to reshape the world according to his own rigid ideals. He displays a cold and calculating demeanor, showing little regard for the free will or well-being of others. His ultimate motivation is to create what he considers a perfect society, a utopia free from conflict and imperfections, but this vision comes at the terrible cost of eliminating individuality and personal choice. He believes that by removing ego and free will, humanity can achieve lasting peace, and he is willing to go to extreme lengths to impose this philosophy on everyone.

Within the story, Doctor Ray is the mastermind behind the seemingly idyllic floating island of Paradapia, which is later revealed to be a gigantic laboratory constructed for his experiments. His plan involves using a device known as the Paradapia Ray, a brainwashing invention designed to subjugate the minds of entire populations across different time periods. He kidnaps people from various eras and brings them to Paradapia, where they are gradually brainwashed and stripped of their emotions and autonomy by his creations, the Three Sages, who act as the public-facing leaders of the utopia. Once his device reaches sufficient power, his goal is to unleash it upon the entire Earth, placing all of humanity under his control forever. To avoid interference from authorities like the Time Patrol, his laboratory is capable of moving through time and space, making it nearly impossible to track.

Ray's key relationships are primarily with his creations and his opponents. The Three Sages are not independent beings but are revealed to be robots, mere puppets that he controls to manage the day-to-day operations of Paradapia and oversee the brainwashing process. He also created and modified Sonya, a robot cat, to serve as the perfect guardian of the island. His primary adversaries are Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends, along with the bounty hunter Marimba. When Nobita proves unusually resistant to the brainwashing, Doctor Ray becomes intrigued and decides to use him as the final test subject for an upgraded version of his device, the Neo Paradapia Ray.

As the story progresses, Doctor Ray demonstrates a notable lack of development or redemption. When his plan begins to unravel, he does not hesitate to escalate his actions. Upon realizing his scheme has been thwarted, he activates Paradapia's self-destruct mechanism and attempts to escape, showing his cowardly and destructive nature by trying to destroy the entire island along with everyone on it, as well as the city of Tokyo below. His ultimate fate is capture by the Time Patrol, who arrive after the crisis is resolved to arrest him for his crimes.

Regarding abilities, Doctor Ray possesses no superhuman physical powers but is a highly skilled scientist and inventor from an advanced future era. His most notable ability is his mastery of mind control technology, as demonstrated by the Paradapia Ray and its upgraded version, which can gradually or immediately override a person's free will. He also has the technical knowledge to construct a mobile, time-traveling floating laboratory like Paradapia and to create advanced robotic beings such as the Three Sages and Sonya. His strategic ability to evade the Time Patrol for an extended period also indicates a high level of cunning and foresight.
