Description
Kaori is a central character in Eien no Aselia, known primarily for her role as the younger, non-blood-related stepsister of the protagonist, Yuuto. Both she and Yuuto became orphans after their parents died in an airplane crash, and they lived together as a family following this tragedy.
Kaori is a small and physically delicate girl, standing 140 centimeters tall with a slender build, pale skin, violet eyes, and long brown hair that reaches past her waist. Her initial appearance is defined by her signature accessories: a pair of glasses, a strange hat, and a pendant necklace, while her personal item is a flute. Her personality is generally bright, kind, and hard-working, though she also possesses a timid side, making her a friendly but gentle presence in Yuuto’s life. Despite her cheerful nature, she has a somewhat clumsy streak that persists even as she grows.
Her primary motivation throughout the story is deeply tied to her feelings for Yuuto. She harbors secret romantic emotions for him, which are complicated by their familial relationship. At the outset, she is portrayed as a character who needs to be protected, as her capture by the king of Rakios directly forces Yuuto to become an unwilling soldier, wielding the Eternity Sword known as Desire. This hostage situation is the catalyst for much of the plot's conflict.
As the narrative progresses, Kaori undergoes a significant transformation. Witnessing her brother sacrifice everything for her safety drives her to resolve to become stronger so she is no longer a burden. This resolve marks a turning point; she sheds her timid image, represented by her decision to stop wearing her glasses and hat, and steps out of her passive role. She even takes the proactive step of asking Yuuto’s other companions to support and entrust themselves to him, encouraging Yuuto to follow his own will rather than being bound solely by his duty to her.
Her role in the story evolves from a damsel in distress into an active emotional anchor for Yuuto. Her most significant relationship is undoubtedly with Yuuto, to whom she is fiercely devoted. She is also the subject of an unhealthy obsession from another character, Shun, a former acquaintance from school whose violent fixation on her is amplified after being corrupted by the most powerful Eternity Sword, Oath. In terms of abilities, Kaori is not a frontline combatant for most of the story. Her talents are domestic and artistic; she is skilled at cooking and playing the flute. However, in supplementary content, she appears as a playable character wielding the Divine Sword known as Desire, which she keeps in the form of a cherished pendant given to her by Yuuto. Her development culminates in a bittersweet acceptance of Yuuto’s fate, demonstrating maturity and a willingness to let go for his sake.
